"She Took An Axe" (c) Director Nick Gomez, in his career is engaged in the creation of exclusively television projects, series and biographical stories. Many of these projects share a common theme: crime and often brutal murder. In fact, one of Gomez's latest paintings - "Lizzy Borden took the axe", shows us an example of one of these murders.
The plot of the film is based on a real story in 1892, when a girl named Lizzie Borden killed her own father and stepmother with an ax. After that, she was successfully acquitted herself, since almost no one in the city believed in her guilt. Since then, the name Lizzie Borden has become a household name. Her name is associated with similar crimes, there was a children’s counting, in many textbooks on history and law, the crime committed by Lizzie Borden appears quite often. Beyond this, Lizzie is often mentioned in many films, books and even musical works. In general, this is a huge mass phenomenon of American culture.
In general, from the very beginning of viewing, it is more than obvious that the project is purely television and you should not expect any revelations from it, namely, the appearance of another killer, aliens or Bigfoot, who suddenly killed Lizzie’s parents. Everything, so to speak, within the limits of historical material, with only minor deviations. Although it's worth noting that even for a TV project, the crime scene looks pretty brutal. I really want to praise Christina Ricci, that’s a long time she was not seen, and meanwhile, she plays just amazing, and looks no worse. As Lizzie, she is a very pretty and pleasant girl. You believe in her character, because Ricci gave everything here to the fullest.
The film is certainly not for a large audience. Someone, most likely, will not like his television roots, someone will not be delighted with everything that happens on the screen, because the action here is quite measured and sometimes quite leisurely. Although it is worth saying that the picture is only an hour and a half, fortunately, does not have time to get bored. Of course, there is a certain merit of Christina Ricci. Her character is sympathetic and at the same time understands that she is a cold-blooded killer, she deserves punishment. Well, there's a lot to praise. The main thing is to remember that the project is aimed at a very narrow audience and most likely, many people may not like it. Although, without the talented Ricci, personally I would give the picture no more than 5 points, or even less.
