Four psychology students gather in an abandoned house to conduct an experiment to detect paranormal phenomena. Students are a couple of girls and a couple of guys, or a couple of good guys and a couple of bad guys. Whatever. The bad guys, as is often the case, drag the good guys into an adventure, and the experiment gets out of hand. At the end of the film, 8 minutes before the finale, a couple of police officers appear who give a brief overview of the events (Dominic Purcell and Hol McCallani) and help us draw disappointing conclusions from the story. And thank you very much, because there is no history or conclusions in the film.
Is my only hope that the film promotes a healthy lifestyle? Maybe... Well, please, let it be that way. Otherwise, I don’t understand why I saw it and how I could see it. The movie is terrible. There is absolutely nothing artistic about it. Tight girls in lace underwear and slack still do not save the situation, because the background is poor and unpleasant to vomiting. Personally, I was still interested to look at Rumer Willis, and guess the facial expressions and organics of the folder with my mom, but this did not save the situation. Boring, uninteresting, fearless, unpleasant, do not advise anyone.

An intriguing title, a cover that refers to the era of slashers from the second half of the eighties, a fairly low average rating of the picture, a lot of negative reviews and Dominic Purcell as a guest star. Um, any normal person would see that and spit it out. Unfortunately, the author of these lines is clearly not a normal person, and therefore he decided to get acquainted with this film at his leisure. Did you? Yeah. You regretted your time? Why not? Well, let me introduce our freak today -- er, I wanted to say hero -- "The Ganzfeld Experiment."
And I’ll start with the main thing, namely, that the film positions itself as a horror and thriller. Thus, the viewer expects to see angry ghosts that will chase students, all this will occur under the oppressive / cheerful soundtrack, and blood should flow in decalitres. But none of that will be in the movie. Yes, there will be murders. Yes, there will be ghosts in the number of one thing... but I’m still not sure if this ghost was actually or that delusion of the inflamed consciousness of the main character, it doesn’t matter. But what is important is that the "Ganzfeld Experiment" is a rare representative of the genre of mystical detective. In any case, he desperately tries to impersonate such that sometimes he even succeeds.
Well, if we are a mystical detective, then it is time to expect interesting and memorable characters, as it was in the novels of Stephen King or in such films as “Ghost”, “Ghost House on the Hill” and other films that you, respected viewers, remember. So who are the heroes of our history? Oh, these are four psychology students who have to do their thesis in an abandoned house owned by the parents of one of the heroines of history. It sounds intriguing, and since the heroes are not typical teenagers, but people who have decided to devote their lives to psychology, it is time to expect that interesting and memorable personalities will appear before us. So who are they? So, so, so... a rocker, a giver, a nerd and the main character, who keeps a buggy secret about herself. Twenty-five again! He took out the newspaper and applied it directly to the head of the man who was working on the script. The man who decides to become a shrink may be the last bastard, but he will never be... the average man! He will be a bright person! Sorry, I'm a little carried away. So, young people who are preparing their thesis demonstrate that in psychology courses they were in a state of lethargic sleep or even coma, which, however, in this case is equivalent. So, the characters communicate in a kind of ancestral language that resembles the language of cavemen - "I, me, my, wow, half-naked chick" rather than the language of Shakespeare, and they were deprived of intelligence. And a good example of this is that for any tragedies, life adversity and just minor troubles guys respond by using coke. Do they see their long-dead relatives? We should take the magic powder. Are they sad and lonely? We should take the magic powder. Are they just bored? Yeah, you get it. And it is worth noting that the guys are kind of not amateurs and know what they do, but eat cocaine in such doses from which Jesse Pinkmar would be horrified to pair with Raoul Duke. And that's fine, but the thing is, cocaine doesn't work on them. Well, yes, they will become more liberated, but only that. He sighs and goes for a poker this time to explain to the writers that you can’t use drugs in your films if you have no idea how they work.
Okay. Heroes are not much smarter than the amoeba, but what about the story itself? Detective? No way. Investigations, as such, the characters will not conduct and the plot will develop on its own, so that students do not do. The main character is talking to a ghost? Oh, an interesting plot twist! Which doesn't lead to anything, because you don't know if she's really talking to a ghost, or is it progressive schizophrenia? Someone is putting the videotape into complete disrepair, which could serve as an excellent reason for a witch hunt? Whatever. The students have another film. And so on and so forth.
Yes, of course, the director, and perhaps it was the initiative of the writers, tried to keep the audience at the screens thanks to half-naked heroines who kiss so ineptly that it looks ridiculous. But the cameraman savors all these shots and at any opportunity tries to demonstrate women's panties. And the creators certainly did not confuse the genre of the picture? Maybe they should try their luck in the shooting of adult films?
Outcome? A bunch of addicts with ghosts decided to play, along the way dancing inept striptease for a very undemanding viewer. The atmosphere in the picture does not heat up. Heroes don't like themselves. I did not hear the music at all, although the annotation of the painting says that there were three composers. A magic number for drinking hard liquor, yes. Is the picture worth the attention? Definitely not.
The theme of abandoned mental hospitals in horror movies has always been relevant. And after the sensational "Grave Seekers", they began to appear just like mushrooms after the rain. Some of them are even able to surprise, and sometimes even frighten. However, most of these paintings are unsuccessful, and at best just repeat. It is to such films that the "Ganzfeld Experiment" belongs.
Reading the descriptions of the picture, imagine that there is something interesting and mysterious, and at the same time frightening. Indeed, everything seems to be there for this: a group of young people trapped in an abandoned house, and all sorts of strange equipment there, and the very idea of such an experiment. But in fact, we’ve been watching almost the entire movie as these four young “scientists” sniff coke, smoke weed, and wash it down with a viscar (or whatever it was). Yes, and of course, do not forget about the topic of sex, without it in modern cinema, unfortunately, can not do.
To be honest, while watching, I had the impression that I was not watching a horror movie, but some kind of, sorry, porn. At the same time, the film is simply filled with blunders, ranging from makeup, then heroines appearing, then disappearing from the faces, ending with illogicalities with working and not working phones. And this is despite the fact that there is simply no acting here in principle.
In general, if you try to somehow evaluate this picture, then I can say that this is just an unfunny parody of the genre, which is neither frightening, but not even interested in what is happening. The only thing I liked was the final dubstep soundtrack. And the ending, in my opinion, turned out really happy, and clearly demonstrates the consequences of drug use. At least for that, the film can be praised.
The beginning of the end is how you would describe the entire film.
The experiment was to investigate not only the presence of paranormal phenomena, but also the transmission of images of one person to another. However, after some time it becomes clear that telepathy does not play a major role in this picture.
The beginning of the film was very reminiscent of "The Pit," the same message, the same backstory. Then everything follows the standard scenario about a group of motley teenagers, gathered not for one purpose. After the words about the scientific project, involuntarily, recalls “The Blair Witch”, even more likely its second part, because the atmosphere of darkness and isolation does not leave all the time.
Watching this film, involuntarily, catch yourself thinking that you want fresh air, as if the lack of breath from the movie passes into real life and presses on the throat.
In terms of atmosphericity, everything is maintained at a very decent level, but as for the plot, there are great doubts about its presence. The director was able to convey what he had planned from the beginning. The feeling that at first it was supposed to be a simple film like “Paronormal phenomenon” or hundreds of others, about ghosts and other creatures who do not want to share the same territory with new guests of their home, but “Ganzfeld Experiment” suddenly turns off this track and turns 90 degrees.
It is impossible to say that the choice of a different path was for the better, because, apart from questions, this film gave absolutely no answers.

The film begins with footage of a young and pretty girl sitting in the bathroom trying to call an ambulance. We immediately strain, begin to listen to every rustle and expect something from which the heart will be pounded quickly, and the adrenaline will flow twice as fast as when you involuntarily miss the last step, stumble and fall. The film positions itself as a horror movie, but alas, nothing terrible here and does not smell, and all the moments with scary songs, cause only laughter through tears.
Here are four students who want to pass the work on practice for a positive assessment. They come to an abandoned house, arrange it in such a way that there is a separate room for the “prisoner”, and a room for the three remaining who will watch the whole case. The essence of the experiment is to understand whether people have paranormal abilities, in this case telekinesis, or not. And one would believe the seriousness of this experiment if the two subjects hadn't sniffed cocaine and booed like regimental horses. Well, later, the whole experiment turns into an endless stream of meaningless drinking alcohol, using heroin, smoking pot and having sexual pleasures with each other.
This film is not taken seriously and if you look closely, it looks more like a short film of an inexperienced and just getting up to his feet director, rather than a professional. But all this pales before what the writer suggests to us. Does this mean that this is how modern horror looks? Total nonsense. A girl who walks down the hallway and walks into a room while two girls kiss and undress, it’s not scary, it’s sexy and funny, and equally. The director wanted to attract young people, I dare assume that he was male, and most likely he partially succeeded. In the frame lit up sports, beautiful and semi-naked girls who make lesbian love and perhaps this is the only positive moment in the whole film and this is the moment that is remembered most of all. Well, after this beautiful incident, a second-rate slag was poured, in the form of a blood-sprayed room, sticking out of the floor of a knife, and endlessly running little girls.
Talking about acting in this film is not necessary, it is not surprising. The director cannot decide on the genre of his picture, then issuing something like horror, then sharply changing the story into a comedy channel, as you can reproach actors who, to be honest, can not be called actors. I think each of us is able to get scared on camera, tear up and even scream at the fact that a girl in black suddenly walked into the door.
Is it worth wasting your time on this movie? Don't be. I am glad that the boom, yet there is some screening mechanism that is able to look into the eyes of the director, soberly assess the situation and tell him that the film is not suitable for wide distribution, and will be held only in several theaters, and then immediately released on the DVD and everyone will forget about it at once.
Thanks to this, we can safely say that the movie is disposable and suitable only to watch it at home sitting in headphones.

Four students come to an abandoned house to experiment with the paranormal. Two guys and two girls. They arrange equipment: recording devices, monitors, etc. They start, but things don't go according to plan. Flashbacks, curiosity, drugs and alcohol play a cruel joke with young people. That's the whole movie.
At once it looked interesting, I thought that at least a little parrot, but it was not here. It's all down to banalism. A cliché with a dark past, a cliché with bad behavior and a positive character designation. The mystical component is fate. That's the grand piano in the bushes. It didn't. Without the supernatural, everything could be explained. Approximately like in "Vie" (2013).
Of the positives, we can distinguish a good game by Dominic Purcell (his role is small) and a dubstep soundtrack. The rest is necessities, you need to remove from memory. The experiment failed.
