Director Kioni Waxman, who has done 11 works with Seagal, does not stoop to a low level, although his action films are not always high. If Maximum Term was an interesting dynamic action movie, then The Good Man was not, unfortunately, a good film, and pushing pompous speeches from Seagal does not make his hero so good.
There are many fights, shootings, but not all action scenes are related to Seagal. His unemotional play is probably the worst there is. His character seems to touch nothing, he looks more like a robot programmed to kill than a living person. Of course, Seagal, as well as other heroes of militants, lyceums are not outstanding, but he can play, in principle. And here we have a kind of parody of a Buddhist who has detached himself from our reality. The authors again overthink the plot, because in the confusing mafia showdowns somehow do not want to understand. The main thing is that the story does not cause an audience response, and therefore we have another passing action movie, at times similar to a thoughtless shooter, rather than a meaningful action.
Seagal and Waxman work at a truly Stakhanov pace, making films after each other. But it would be better if they waited for a pause, worked better on the plot, look, and could please the fans of the actor. In the end, Van Damme manages to make good films, albeit modest about his best work. However, in The Good Man, Tzi Ma is interesting as the main villain. It is unusual to see him in such a role, but he played really well. Perhaps his performance is the best virtue of this quite mediocre film.
4.5 out of 10
The beginning of the film is quite good because it shows us Seagal drinking whiskey as if it was Russian vodka. Next is a flashback from the military past of the protagonist. This is pretty good and adds at least some originality to the next calcified and stamped film with Seagal.
That's unfortunately true. If you expected something original from the duo Sigal-Waxman, then your expectations were slightly inflated. For after the flashback, the film follows the usual scenario of a thrash-action category "G" with a lot of illogicalities and stamps.
Seagal is looking for a “Chinaza” who framed the Scorpion King (a liar, to be exact) and along the way administers justice, baffling the brave Romanian cops.
I have to say that as a fan of Seagal and a fan of action movies, the film was a little pleased. I can’t say that I liked it, but it can’t be called a full thrash like “Mercenary” or “Asian Connection” either.
At least because the action level in this film is almost good. This is partly true of Seagal, although it is evident that in some scenes he does not use or hardly uses a stunt double. And besides, he cheerfully crumbles opponents with his tanto, which cannot but rejoice.
Victor Webster isn't bad either. You can see that he fights in the style of Seagal because Steve in his films fights almost always. Unlike the director, Victor fights much more energetically and beautifully. This is certainly a big plus for the movie.
Steven's not bad at hand-to-hand, either. Boudreau throws opponents and weighs out luleys also cheerfully. But age and fitness, unfortunately, make themselves felt.
We can also highlight Ron Baliki, Seagal’s former bodyguard and one of the gangsters. The duel with Seagal on the knives, which he staged, evokes memories of “In Siege” and makes us hope that the next film of the Seagal-Waxman tandem will be better.
I cannot say anything about the antagonist. He's just an angry Kitaiza from the triad who's bad because that's what the script says.
The shootings in the film are no different, but not as depressing as in “Sniper” or “Asian Connection”. Partly because there are not many of them.
The cameraman is quite tolerable, I can not say anything bad about music. As well as good, though.
As a result, we have another Seagal-Waxman fighter. Category B this time. It can not be called a complete thrash, but a weak script and a clear lack of action are very much affected. Seagal fans should like it, action fans will call it either "nothing" or "bad." It is well deserved.
Directed by Keony Waxman and martial arts actor, once a star of militants, Steven Seagal: 2009 - "Guardian" and "Dangerous Man", 2012 - "Maximum Term", 2013 - "Punitive Squad", 2014 - "Good Man", 2015 - "Mercenary: Absolution", and for 2016, another joint film "The End of the Gun" was announced, then "Murder of Salazar" should be released. Total: six films directed and actor in six years of cooperation, and two in mind. For Keony Waxman, this collaboration was the most notable stage for the audience in the work, although before that Waxman shot eleven (!!!) films. Yes, Waxman’s films with Steven Seagal in the title role became the most watched, but the reviewed does not mean good: the average score of these films is slightly more than 5. So thanks to these simple mathematical studies, it is easy to understand that Waxman’s films are second-rate videos.
And there is no exception to the above-mentioned film “The Good Man”, which is indirectly a continuation of another mentioned film “Punitive Squad”. In addition to the fact that the hero of Steven Seagal named Alexander Coates, or a former super soldier, or the head of a criminal cartel (in different versions in different ways), the films “Punitive Squad” and “The Good Man” have nothing in common. In The Good Man, Alexander appears as an ex-mercenary with deadly skills, but he decided to leave his profession behind. And how it is routinely in films of this level, the main character will have to take up the old, become a lone avenger, protecting the innocent human lives of one beauty (and what else happens?!) Lena (Julia Verdes) and her little sister Mia (Sophia Nicolaescu). Meanwhile, they have a brother named Sasha (Victor Webster) who is also a martial artist. The brother was involved in the disassembly of the mafia, the younger sister is kidnapped, he is wanted, in general, only the brave Alexander will help him.
For all the fact that the star of Steven Seagal has long sunk and continues to roll, he is not the weakest link in “The Good Man”, but rather he is even the strongest and strongest link (now understand what kind of film this “Good Man” is), constantly breaking the bones of opponents. The weakest link in the film is its plot, written by the joint efforts of the same Reony Waxman and a certain Jason Rainwater, who at one time appeared in 1992 in minor roles in the films Lethal Weapon 3 and Forever Young (with Mel Gibson did he lead a friendship?), then under the name Jason Meshover-Iorg, then just Jason Iorg. Apparently, for the role of the screenwriter took a pseudonym. So, this couple created a completely stereotyped action movie according to all its worn-out canons: a lone hero, a beauty who needs his help, mafia structures (of course, Russian mafia @ Chinese triads), and in addition, they wove a storyline there with a fighter against the Chinese who leaves a bloody sign on the murder scenes, and police officers who investigate this case.
And all this collection of works named after Waxman and Rainwater does not have a common well-coordinated design, the storylines exist separately by themselves, Waxman failed to assemble them even in the end, even revealing the secret of the killer of the Chinese mafia. I looked at it and wondered if there was something unexpected. I will not take into account: why in the 80s and 90s of the last century they were able to shoot action films that still want to review, and then turned the genre into solid recycled materials and consumer goods? For Steven Seagal, “In Siege” was far behind, but as I said, in the film “The Good Man” with his fighting skills, he somehow decorates the gray picture. Not bad even against the background of Seagal looked Victor Webster, the performer of the main role in the final two parts (I hope that the final!) The Scorpion King, who himself has a black belt in Taekwondo, so he added fighting to the picture. And all the others, including the sweet Julia Verdes and familiar to many in the franchise “Rush Hour” in the role of Ambassador Han Tzi Ma clearly showed why they are actors, whose names even with effort can not be remembered.
Absolutely template and spineless film, which can only be watched if you really want to see the next hand-to-hand fights, where your skill once again demonstrates the giant Steven Seagal, and echoes him Victor Webster. But it’s better to take, but watch “In the Siege” as the ship’s cook defeated terrorists.

I am a good man who does bad things to bad people.
After the more or less successful “Maximum Term”, Steven Seagal, as usual, released mediocre productions – “Punitive Squad” and “The Good Man”. To say that this movie is bad is not entirely true. Still, the fighter came out watchable, and that's the main thing. But it's just that he's passing and mediocre. The plot of the film is again some kind of unclear - the tedious, hero of the invincible Steven Seagal is again mired in the criminal showdowns of the international mafia and around what the whole "confusion" of the film actually revolves, after watching it, you will not immediately remember. In addition, everything was shot as before on the “digit”, and as before by the talentless cameraman Nathan Wilson (who has long stuck to the Seagal-Waxman tandem). Although a whole committee of composers worked on the soundtrack of the film - it came out as something faded and completely unforgettable. However, like the picture itself, in which, if anything, it is occupied by the performers. Which, frankly speaking, also stars from the sky are missing, but at least selected for their roles successfully. And the young action - the hero of the video - fighters Victor Webster - so generally argue with Seagal not only in charisma, but also for the place of "the first guy in the village." Apparently, this is why he has so much expanded the role, although he is essentially a secondary character.
I do not see any point in talking about the technical characteristics of the film, since “The Good Man” (the tape would be more appropriate to call “The Good Guy”) is a typical TV movie, with all the problems that arise from it. In particular, such as a very small budget (some frivolous $ 7 million), in connection with which the almost complete lack of high-quality, inventive action, nothing unremarkable, ingenious camera work and the absence of stars. The film was shot, which is called cheap and angrily - the timing is probably somewhere in a couple of days (otherwise, how to explain the moment noticed by many viewers - the hero of Steven Seagal repeatedly removes a black leather). The only joy for those who remember the early films with Seagal is that he once again took up the Japanese sword! Although the scenes in which he cuts enemies came out not as bloody as originally expected. Therefore, to demand from him the quality of early fighters with Seagal is foolish. In general, if you are not an ardent fan of the now obese master of martial arts, then you actually have nothing to watch The Good Man for.
Now I need to say a few words about the film. He's not very smart, though. It all begins with one secret military operation somewhere in the mountainous and flattering terrain. The hero of Steven Seagal, together with his partner, eliminates a major Muslim radical who was supposed to make a deal with a famous Chinese arms dealer. But the latter could not be eliminated, and as a result of the explosion, a little girl was killed (how she was on the scene of the criminal transaction is not known). After the incident, the blameless commander of the operation Alexander, acting under the nickname White Ghost (Stephen Seagal, who has not yet understood), decides to leave the service. At the same time, bringing it to the end, namely, to track down the elusive boss of the Triad, Mr. Chen - the same Chinese arms dealer. This mission leads the hero to a provincial town, where he accidentally meets a mysterious Russian girl her younger sister, who are under the rule of the Russian mafia. Lena told him that her cousin Sasha had business with Vladimir, the leader of their mafia. He works for gangsters for his late father's debts. Realizing that the criminals will not let Lena and her relatives go so easily, Alexander decides to stand up for new acquaintances and declares war on the Russian, and at the same time the Chinese mafia.
In addition to these characters, the plot is actively police partners Paul and Maria (one of whom, later turns out to be corrupt), who investigate the murders started by the hero of Steven Seagal. In particular, suspecting in them the character of the cool Victor Webster (Lena's brother - Sasha). He has a military past, fights with suspicious personalities. All the characters were played quite convincingly, casting for certain roles, as already mentioned, was excellent. Steven Seagal himself is here in excellent (according to recent times, of course) form, and quite often and quickly fights in hand-to-hand, and not only shoots, as it happens in his latest militants. Only for some reason he decided to let go of his beard, which, it should be noted, does not suit him at all. And for the sake of filming in the film, Steven Seagal did not shave, so now the master of aikido is not only fat, but also bearded. Here's the thing...
Insanely cool professional commando-killer (not even “sea seal”, but really “fat seal” some) in the process of performing a special mission in the vastness of the Russian North Caucasus annoyingly missed his goal – a Hong Kong arms dealer. And he especially hated him for the fact that he escaped in time, and the arrival of an American missile killed a number of civilians instead.
But this was not the hero of Steven Seagal, not to bring it to the end.
I had to do it somewhere in Romania. In the process, the local Russian mafia was powdered.
Intrigue and could not be especially, understanding who made the film, and who there in the lead role.
Talk about the movie
It’s time for Steven Seagal to start playing cyborgs or pure robots. That would justify the use of firearms against him. He's already such a big uncle. I think he’ll be going to Sumo soon.
But in general, nothing like a show, if not claims to exquisiteness.
A simple action movie with a Seagal twist. Even the lyrics are stuck there. And you know how good Seagal is in bed scenes.
Fans of Steven Seagal and fans of action movies recommend watching the film. In principle, it does not strain and even disposes to rest.
Alexander is a veteran of combat operations, who failed the last mission miserably and retired as a soldier. Fate took him to Eastern Europe, but trouble found him. So there's no time to sit still, everyone has to kick their ass! That's the bullshit.
The time of Steven Seagal seems to be gone, but he does not want to put up with it and continues to stubbornly bend his line, starring in a little-known director. What did he find in him? I don't understand. It looks like a lifeline that you can hold on to and remind yourself of from time to time. Well, that's his choice. It's not up to us. . .
Now let’s talk about the painting. So what do we see? Yes, nothing: gray, dull streets of some Eastern European city, traditional Russian muzzles, it is unclear how the fatal beauty got here. It immediately becomes clear that it will be hot. Typical B-category fighter. No more, no less. In the last decade, Stephen seems to have completely forgotten what it means to act, but here he tries to remind himself of the past: he waves well and cuts all sorts of rubbish with a traditional Japanese sword, and helps him with this cool pepper Victor Webster. Together they make a good duo.
Outcome: Maybe it would have been a masterpiece in the 90s, but not now. A boring, unremarkable film with a bearded Seagal in the title role. Suitable for ardent fans of the actor's talent. There can be no talk of any talent. . .
I am a good person who does bad things to bad people!
The plot of the new action movie with Seagal is far from trivial. One day, during a special operation to destroy an arms dealer, Alexander, a first-class mercenary, witnesses the death of a little girl, and he has since resigned. Two years later, in a European city dominated by Russian bandits, Alexander unwittingly witnesses the kidnapping of a little girl by bandits as a ransom for the triad. Naturally, this course of things does not suit the mercenary, and he decides to go against the evil guys by war.
I can immediately disappoint – this movie is no worse than the previous films with Seagal, who managed to slide to B films on the wave of his career. But this film does not turn the language, because it has no advantages.
It’s nice to watch how in action scenes (which are not as much as I wanted, but still placed as it should and in their places) Seagal himself wields his hands and feet, and despite his age, deftly twisting and breaking the hands of villains. And this is without the use of a stunt double, which can not but please. There are not so many shootings here, but still, oddly enough, they look no worse than the fights themselves set in this film. And yet the ordinary viewer will be repulsed by the fact that Steven with a calm expression of his face wets enemies to the right and left, fans will understand that this is how the actor has been behaving recently.
However, in this film he is strongly displaced by Victor Webster, because the action scenes with his participation are much more than the scenes with Stephen, and we can say that this is another plus in favor of the film. Victor quite deftly and quickly gets rid of enemies, sometimes giving a head start to Stephen himself. But the question arises: is this not a sign that Stephen, as they say, “it’s time for peace”? Who knows, maybe in the next movie he will play a secondary role?
As for the film itself, as an action movie, it is rather dull. It has a lot of dialogue, a lot of unnecessary scenes that allegedly reveal the difficult life of the characters. It seems interesting, but everything is presented as fresh. Russian villains and the triad are not particularly interesting either. Well, there they are, there they are, evil walkers, and what does that mean? Nothing. None of them have charisma, talent, or any significance at all.
Perhaps the only links here are Steven Seagal and Victor Webster. The first has grown a beard, and now he walks with his hands in his pockets, talks about life, points others to their place. Yes, Steven looks very tired in this movie, but that doesn’t stop him from doing what he wrote above. His character came out quite amusing, but at the same time typical Punisher, only more soulful. He calls himself a good man, but does not do good deeds - he cuts victims, aka a maniac, kills right and left. Pretty weird. Webster is also not stitched, and looks very cheerful in this film. It's a counterweight to Seagal in the film.
The result is not comforting. “The Good Man” is just another rather tedious action movie with a rather charismatic Seagal in the title role. Fans of this actor should not miss this movie, because it is quite cheerful fights. Others may pass by.
Meet another faceless craft from the genre of action movies for video under the brand “Seagal-Waxman”. You won’t find anything new in “The Good Man.” What "Dangerous man", what else does not matter, if we talk about the creativity Sigala over the past ten years, if not more. A monotonous hulking in order to simply make money on the set of an unnecessary non-combatant for a DVD. I do not perceive such films differently for a long time, because the creators do not even try to bring anything original.
About the fact that the performer of the main role has long been lazy on the set to perform at least something in the frame, except for his punch with the hand and foot, say for a long time. Just as long as Steve was still in the clip, he obviously had a desire to show the audience all the features of his fighting style. By the way, in the same "Hunting for the Beast" at the beginning of the zero there were very cool fights, in the oriental style. But if we talk about the latest paintings, with the exception of "Ruslan", no effort is visible. The main character only moves slightly with the specialties, and even then they are always limited to former CIA agents, military and, if lucky, mercenaries.
"A good man" is complete nonsense from the point of view of a sane person who may be interested in military action. The script is funny: someone killed someone, framed, the chain of logic of the main characters can not be traced, everything is deliberately blurred to the point of impossibility. Apparently, so that the viewer does not ask unnecessary questions. I don’t know why you should ask anything! The action with each film is weaker and weaker. Mindless shooting and taking out any opponent with one blow. Who would be interested in this in 2014?
You know, I'm more than happy to review any such action movie of the 90s with ZhKVD, where he fought with the chief gad for 15 minutes. It was stupid, but always spectacular in this genre. And if we talk about the sample of good criminal fighters of the new generation, then I would rather revise "Mechanics" with Article or "Hostage" with Nison. Here is the chase, and action, and scripts that you need! The director Waxman along the way does not strive to learn anything, he already has more than one job. Therefore, until Seagal has the opportunity to show his talent in a decent picture, we will be at least twenty years to see such a disgrace. I don't recommend wasting time.
The actor Steven Seagal is probably very difficult to call an “actor”, here is “merciless machine for kicking ass” this name is more suitable for this person, but even though the actor is none of him, I still respect this person and expect every new project with him, no matter how hard it is still Uncle Stephen, who in the 90s pleased us with good action films, but in the 2000s gave up positions and began to star in lousy films.
The new film Kioni WaxmanA Good Man, it is difficult to call very bad, bad, but it does not reach a positive assessment. The plot of the picture is very boring and monotonous, but in places not bad and interesting and even intriguing! The intrigue is present primarily at the beginning of the plot, which in my opinion is not bad. We are shown well-made shootouts, good action, then events occur a few years later, in short, gain momentum, catch the viewer. I was starting to think in some places that it was finally a quality Steven Seagal movie, and? I was very disappointed!
As soon as Seagal started waving his fists at everyone as usual, something happened to the plot and the script and the whole movie, you no longer look with interest behind the plot and behind the characters and just the film sags in an instant, in one damn second. I don't think it's Steven Seagal, that he's the only problem! Nope! No less to blame and Kioni Waxman, who once again did not bring to mind the character of Steven Seagal, and the script as a whole. But still there are interesting plot moments, which the viewer learns only to the end and what is good, they are interesting.
The action in the film I liked, but not from Steven Seagal, and from Victor Webster, that's who really pleased not bad action, well, Steven Seagal is all the same, all over knocked out (mostly) not to change the drawing. Well, from the acting work again the most liked Victor Webster, played great, well, and Stephen Seagal as usual. Qi Ma was not bad!
To sum up, the film is sadly weak, but not the weakest in Seagal’s collection. There are interesting moments, and the plot in places is not that bad, but only in places, and otherwise a standard action movie with everyone and all Sigal and with a fair amount of stupidity.
In this film, the character of Steven Seagal goes everywhere in a black leather jacket and neutralizes enemies with one blow. Hell, he even wears a jacket in his apartment! He does not take it off even when he is close to a girl. That must be the secret of his skill.
In the story, an experienced warrior settled somewhere in a European city. But he can't do anything. I met a young girl, and she has a lot of trouble. Of course! Could he have met a happy girl? Naturally, our hero begins to protect her, and at the same time clean the streets of the city from thugs.
On the plus side, Seagal is finally fighting in his own movies again. In at least a few episodes there was definitely no backup. Victor Webster is cool, too. The fighting scenes with his participation are twice as many as with Seagal, they are twice as long, and they definitely look no worse. Seems like Seagal realized it was time to make way for the young. For the second time after the “Punitive squad” in the film with his participation, a young fighter shines with skill.
Weakly played a little actress in the role of Mia. The script is the weakest link in this film. By the middle, the action sags a lot. Seagal needs to read the scripts carefully, make corrections. It would be good to change the director K. Waxman, who has become a permanent one. Well, they don't make good joint tapes! Despite the minuses, Seagal’s loyal fans will easily master the tape with one approach. Stephen has had worse jobs.
