Temple of Classical Music A decent musical film. It is a pity that little is known in our country. Of course, the plot is very conventional and naive. But for a musical movie, that’s okay, no one was waiting for the truth of life from “Musical Story,” for example. (In general, such films were typical of the middle of the last century.)
So, a little orphan girl enters a luxurious concert hall and watches Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky conduct his works. Then she takes root in Carnegie Hall (a luxury gift to Americans from an American billionaire - what a contrast to the Russian oligarchs who only rob and take out!). But the heroine is just a cleaner, although she loves and understands music. (The life level of the breakdown is fabulous.) In this musical house, she meets both her love and family happiness, albeit short-lived. A son grows up, and his mother dreams that one day he will perform on the famous stage.
The tape includes fragments of performances of outstanding conductors and performers of the first half of the twentieth century: B. Walter and L. Stokovsky, J. Heifetz, A. Rubenstein and others. Because of this, Carnegie Hall is worth watching. In the course of the film, I remember N. Lebrecht’s book Who Killed Classical Music. Most of the classics were not written in the twentieth century, but it was during this period that it became widely known. In the world there were millions of fans to whom it became available, thanks to recording and concerts. For several decades there was even a cult of classical music, and the famous theaters and concert halls became like temples. Then everything changed, by the end of the century the situation was different, commercial interests began to prevail significantly, but the film reflects a golden era, when neither performers-virtuososos were ready to pray.
The director coped well with his task, although he did not specialize in musical films, but shot in different genres. The dream of the heroine, not without obstacles came true. A hundred-year-old performer of the main role is still alive.
