In the Soviet box office, it would probably be called a production drama. A scientist is drilling the deepest well in Africa, right down to magma, in order to extract a bunch of minerals and thermal energy. They say that such a hole in the Earth can cause trouble. But progressive cancer makes the scientist painfully brave and he dreams of making history. And as a result, through his fault, a crack has formed in the Earth, the planet is ready to split in half, because the water of the world ocean is poured into the crack, and it can cool the core. Earth is shaken by earthquakes and tsunamis. And even a small piece will come off the Earth.
In general, even to me, a person far from geology, watching this orgy was strange. Moreover, for the most part, the whole film is scientific dialogue, and the experience of a scientist who has collapsed on all fronts (his wife has also left him) and the triumph of his student and the crack of the teacher who has hurt his wife. The only thing I want to note is that the scenes of natural disasters, including the train crash, were filmed very well. But there are few such scenes, and probably only because of them, this film is not worth watching.
