A mercenary from the Wild West, Alec Longmire, miraculously breaking out of another mess, tries to keep the promise given to a deceased friend-grandfaiter and start a new life. In the next town, he agrees to become an assistant to the local old sheriff. Here there is a confrontation between small farmers and a local rich landowner and an honest sheriff tries to keep them from violence.
One of many second-row westerns featuring 50-60s star Rory Calhoun. Here he plays a gunman who tries to start a new life without a gun. Dean Jagger, as the old sheriff, tries to help him apply his talents in the field of firearms to the benefit of society. Of course, it will not be without the daughter of the sheriff, pretty blonde Martha Heyer.
In the small role of the ex-lover of Longmire Maria in the film starred the then wife of Rory Calhoun Lita Baron. In the role of a rich antagonist Robert Middleton, and hired gunman Chad Sloan, cruel and mocking, played Grant Williams (a year later he will get his main role in the career of “Incredibly losing weight man”, an NF masterpiece from the Director and this film Jack Arnold).
A decent western. Arnold knows how to keep pace and does not delay the action. Shootings, fights, a good script and colorful characters. Very good example of the genre of the classical era.
