"Party in Acapulco" - one of the many films with Elvis Presley, shot according to a single formula, invented during the filming of "Blue Hawaii". There are beach exotic places, and beauties in bathing suits, and Elvis singing songs from his new album with a radiant smile. In general, a typical Elvis-movie, shot for young fans of the King of Rock and Roll, does not claim any cultural value. But I liked this picture surprisingly. And in many ways, thanks to the soundtrack.
As you know, shooting in Hollywood, which replaced the scene for many years, over time began to negatively affect the popularity of Presley as a singer. Even the only song from the film "Party in Acapulco" "Bossa Nova Baby", released as a separate single in 1963, in the Hot 100 chart managed to reach only 8th place. Yes, the quality of these songs sounded in the film was pop. But, nevertheless, the style in which they were performed, at least made this album more conceptual and interesting, compared to the previous ones. After all, the place of action of the musical was the famous resort of Mexico Acapulco. Songs will be similar to Mexican songs.
In terms of acting, Elvis’s work in Fun in Acapulco remained the same as in the last few films. Presley still plays without much enthusiasm, but convincingly speaking the lyrics in front of the camera in between musical numbers (which, in general, suited the producers). This time, Presley tried on the role of a handyman - an American who gets a job in a Mexican hotel as a security guard, a lifeguard by the pool and (who would have thought?) a singer in evening shows. In parallel, Presley’s hero gets involved in a love triangle, building relationships with the bullfighter Dolores (Elsa Cardenas) and social worker Margarita (Ursula Andress). But it is also worth mentioning the rival of the main character in the face of the champion in jumping in Mexico Moreno (Alejandro Rey), who does not intend to share with the American either the work of a rescuer (in the story, Presley’s character worked during siesta hours while Moreno rested), or Margarita, on whom he also laid his eye. To help the hero to get out of trouble will be a boy Raoul (Lari Domazin), who, in my opinion, played bright enough for his age.
In general, "Party in Acapulco" quite copes as an easy musical picture for family viewing. I wouldn’t be able to review it. But the film left positive impressions.
