From Singapore to Istanbul The film is a remake of Singapore filmed in 1947. Compared to the original, it loses a lot.
The plot almost completely repeats the original, the difference is that here the action is moved accordingly to Istanbul of the 50s. The main character was engaged in air transportation, and returning 5 years later to Istanbul hopes to take away the diamonds he once hid, which he got from a familiar jeweler killed by bandits. He also remembers his love for a beautiful American woman who died in a fire.
Around the hero begins to activate the criminal world and law enforcement agencies, which also continue to search for missing gems. The thoughts of the hero himself have changed dramatically since the newly appeared heroine.
The merits of the film include only the charismatic Errol Flynn and a beautiful reference to the episode "Casablanca": in the hotel cafe, the romantic mood of the characters creates a charming song When I Fall In Love performed by Nat King Cole. But if in “Singapore” in the role of the heroine was a slimy Ava Gardner, who floated around the screen as a vision, depriving the hero of the gift of speech, the simple Cornell Borchers does not cause the dazzling effect that threw the hero from fire and into the flames. And the color here rather plays not in plus but in minus, the black white range of Singapore looked somewhat noir, the warmth of the evening, aesthetic.
The film is quite watchable, but comparisons with its predecessor do not stand.
