Unexpected joy This is how it sometimes happens: you stumble upon an unfamiliar title – “Over 21”, start watching this film without much enthusiasm and gradually realize that you are dealing with a very worthy cinematic work. The genre is comedy. But the comedy is not quite typical, but with a certain melodramatic flair and delicate, not pathetic patriotic "tones".
And this is natural, because in the center of the picture is the relationship of a man and a woman, and the events unfold at the end of World War II, when “the world was not yet conquered”, and civic feelings completely dominated the minds of all sane creatures on the planet.
Especially representatives of creative professions, which are the main characters of this story - the author of the popular novels by Paul (Irene Dunn) and her husband, a talented journalist Max (Alexander Knox), who voluntarily leaves the editorial chair for service in the army.
Understanding the wisdom of military affairs is given to Max, to put it mildly, not easy, which is not surprising - after all, he is almost forty years old. But not so hopeless makes this process not only the zeal of the hero, but also the hot, heartfelt support of his wife.
And it is the latter circumstance that becomes extremely important for screenwriters Sidney Buckman and Ruth Gordon, director Charles Vidor and performer of the role of Paula charming Irene Dunn, which gives warmth and tenderness to the action, where there are many interesting, even adventurous moves. However, the main topic is the mutual discovery of unexpected traits in characters long and seem to know each other well.
And this is a joy for both the heroes and the audience, for the most part with sympathy related to bright, positive stories.
