Partisan sketches World War II. Italy. Agnese is an ordinary woman. It's not outstanding or special. But when she learns that her husband has died, her life changes. This is how many stories about war heroes begin. Resistance is not even part of her life. Resistance is her whole life. It seems that if the war is over, Agnese’s life will also be over.
She becomes her own in the guerrilla camp. And it is on its support that many rely. The film is based on numerous sketches from partisan life. And in the center - such both driven and sad look Ingrid Tulin. The actress completely abandoned her femininity. Her character is young, but looks like an old man. And that's the truth, too.
Montaldo relies entirely on Ingrid's talent. And complements the picture with modest interiors of partisan life. It puts more on the atmosphere. And in this lies a certain monocomplexity of the picture. From a given tragedy at the beginning, the tape moves to a predictable finale.
The proposed sketches are mostly documentary. There will be no betrayals and intrigues, as for example in the Black Book, Montaldo will offer only a fixation of the way of life in those years.
