Simple Girls of the Eternal City Three girls from different parts of Rome work in a sewing workshop, and during lunch break relax on the steps of the Spanish Steps. The main topic of their conversations is grooms. Elena meets with Alberto, an accountant who knows his price. Marisa - with the modest driver of the Augusto truck. Beauty Lucia likes tall guys, and she is in love with a short skinny jockey. There is another melodramatic line: Elena’s mother buried her husband long ago and now she is friends with an elderly and also lonely railway worker. Sympathy turns into late attachment, but not everyone can understand and approve of such a relationship.
As is customary in good Italian films, under an easy story lurks a satire of stereotypes established in society. Such as, for example, “the place of a woman is at the stove” or “all models are ladies of easy behavior.” This is the beauty of these pictures.
Fun fact: the star declared Marcello Mastroianni, but his character appears only in the final. In addition, it was voiced by another favorite of the audience – Nino Manfredi!
There were so many plot threads in the film that in 1998 a mini-series with the same name was created on its basis, which in the Russian rolling version is called Steps to Glory.
