Horror by Antonio Margheriti. Plan #5 (Another Dance of Death) This film is a remake of another film by Antonio Margheriti – “The Dance of Death” (also known as “The Castle of Blood”). Obviously, "The Dance of Death" didn't get the whistlings expected. Much has been done at the highest level. Margherity refused the black and white image for the sake of color and invited the unconditional stars. Michelle Mercier and Anthony Franchosa starred in commercial projects on both sides of the ocean. They were taken care of by the public. However...
Much later, Margherity himself admitted that the color image spoiled everything. I will add from myself - the attention to the actors also played a cruel joke. Francesa tried very hard, constantly gave out emotions - surprised, upset, sad, afraid. The camera approached him, forgetting everything else. He showed his talent, but the terrible Gothic story faded into the background.
Mercier quite convincingly played a vulgar woman. A man of passion, lust and insatiable. It was inspired and psychologically far more accurate than the image of a detached and enigmatic lady (performed by Barbara Steele). However, such psychologism in the Gothic tale was superfluous. What was needed was mystery. What was missing was exactly what Barbara was doing.
And a few words about camera work. The film spoiled the rejection of the general plans. Close-ups added psychology, taking us away from history itself. This made the story no longer interesting. This is all because the main character of this film disappeared - a mysterious house.
At the exit there is only a modest merit of a mystical tape. There are good acting hits, there is an interesting story. A film of average merit, not going to any comparison with the prototype.
