Ghosts that banish people It is believed that the Blair Witch is the ancestor of the mocumentary genre, and that the second film that gave the genre life was Paranormal. In fact, the first film in this genre was “Cannibal’s Hell” from 1979, and between the two films named above, there were several more little-known works. This is one of those films.
The plot tells us about the ancient mansion of the city of St. Francisville in Louisiana, in which about 200 years ago lived a rich woman, famous for brutalizing slaves, tortured them, and even killed them. Her name was Delphine Lalory, and she was actually living at the time. So the label "based on real events" that appears at the beginning of the film doesn't lie. Nowadays, this house is abandoned. All who tried to settle in it, tell chilling stories about the ghosts of this house.
Now, a group of young students are assigned to study these phenomena. They are given cameras and various equipment to record unusual fluctuations in energy. These sensors can record not only electromagnetic pulses, but also ambient temperature. The guys have to spend 12 hours in this building and check as many rooms as possible. What they do, and the longer they do it, the more strange things happen to them.
In fact, the film is terribly boring, it tries to be like the Blair Witch in everything, but, in any aspect, does not reach its level. Even considering the year of shooting, the picture can not show us anything interesting. Heroes are stupid, their actions are even more so. What should you do, learning that in a huge house, where there are several floors and a bunch of rooms, there are ghosts? For some reason, the characters of this film decide to separate in such a way that each of them was on a different floor, in different parts of the building. Genius (no).
The acting was also not particularly impressive, in many moments the guys did not finish. And their characters were not revealed at all, but it is more the writer’s fault. Naturally, their, frankly bad game, clearly did not contribute to the atmosphere. It did not contribute to this and special effects, which are almost absent here. All the director tries to scare us is a chair flying away at one point and a strange whisper at another. Nothing else, or at least something unexpected.
In general, a very weak, and frankly passable parody of a horror film, I do not recommend watching.
