Who will be the last to laugh? Of course H. Ruemann! Not bad and easy to watch film from the classic Max Ophuls. Ironic, sometimes frivolous plot, saturated with the atmosphere of ease of pre-war Germany.
Legendary Heinz Ruemann as Peter Frank, an advertising agent for one of the wine companies. He, not the relatives of the deceased owner of the winery, receives by will the entire enterprise for the production of wine. But with one condition that Peter must fulfill within a month and then the will will enter into force. This condition in itself is quite funny and gives the whole short-term picture a plaque of frivolity.
The picture was released when the power in the country was already seized by the national socialists. It was banned from display in 1937. Now this event causes slight bewilderment, but then it was quite in the spirit of the time. You won’t have to laugh too much when watching, but rather with a smile on your face. Comic and funny moments are enough, the actors play at ease and they look quite natural.
In the picture you can see well pre-war Germany, people and their lives at that time, some moments are well played out here. The film is imbued with the spirit of bygone time. The young H. Ryumann in this picture is of course on the first roles, his character is interestingly played, his hero is a decent advertising agent who has good human qualities, but loves to drink a glass of another noble drink. That’s where the whole film is built. Because of his passion for wine, most jokes and awkward situations occur.
Fun and airy, funny and frivolous film gave a good mood!
