The Druids' secret weapon 1964 was the most successful year in Antonio Margheriti’s career. One by one, the director’s six films come out in completely different genre frameworks! “Antar invincible” is an adventure action movie, “Evil World” is a very specific documentary film, “The Castle of Blood” is the most rated film, as well as the fantasy “Ursus, the horror of Kyrgyzstan”, the horrors “Long Hair of Death” and the historical canvas “Giants of Rome”. Truly efficient and wide-ranging creative interests of Antonio Margheriti can only be admired! The director had already addressed historical themes in The Fall of Rome in 1963, so he worked relatively easily on Giants. For the role of one of the main characters - Claudius Marcel - Margherity invited the growing popularity of Richard Harrison, who managed to play several roles of this plan.
The plot of the film is unpretentious, but extremely saturated with action. Rarely what screen five minutes is complete without fights, skirmishes, fights, fights. All this is consistent in the same style and does not cause internal contradiction, as well as the ability of the five brave Romans in terms of gun ownership. The cinema of the time was not particularly bloodthirsty, so defeated enemies often look peacefully asleep people. However, this does not spoil the overall impression, rather the opposite. Margheriti's characters were charismatic. In addition to Claudius Marcel, in the "foray" into the rear of the Gauls, there are memorable types: who - with moulded muscles, who - with the ability to throw knives accurately, who - by a young age, which does not in any way prevent him from being a loyal soldier of Caesar. There are also female characters: the Roman Liville and the Gallic girl Edia. Here, too, everything in the spirit of the cinema of those years - the prisoner is necessarily dressed in a luxurious dress, on her head - impeccable styling, on her face - makeup worthy of the cover of a glossy magazine! However, such “decoration” does not look foreign at all, like the very task of “incredibly powerful secret weapons”: who knows what these insidious druids hid in their impenetrable forests? .
