satirikonie This movie has its charm. Several men discuss the Satyricon Fellini and suddenly find themselves in ancient Rome. Before them rushes Nero, Spartacus, the battles of gladiators, Seneca and Petronius. And slaves, lions, Colliseum. It's just unthinkable. No historical certainty, only fantasies and allusions. The narrative turns into a frantic dance of mise-en-scene scenes, ironically echoing the themes of slavery and authoritarianism with our times. Heroes try to see in ancient times a semblance of strikes and social inequality. At the same time, humor and the connection of times.
With all the stylistic failures and frank naivety, this tape is quite consistent with “World History”, “Aliens”, and even the picture of Gaidai “Ivan Vasilyevich changes his profession”.
Although, in my opinion, initially this film offered a more simplified and parody version of “Birds big and small” Pasolini.
I'll mention the actors. The film is based on the duet of Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingracia. These two reminded me of the Marx brothers, tiring with their unbridled movement and pressure.
But they did not cover up all of them. Especially with regard to Edwidge Fenesh, this was difficult to do. She did nothing to stand out as Nero Poppeya's second wife Sabina, but it was all decided by personal charm and appearance.
But Giancarlo Badessi as Nero was charming and unforgettable. In this film, he led a significant role and gave it a much needed modern hue. His Nero reflects every ordinary petty stubborn living in Italy in the seventies.
