A film about a real male In fact, I was planning to find a Philippine western called San Basilio (1981), a passage from which on YouTube simply broke all my templates, but unfortunately my search was unsuccessful. But I’ve come across several references to the entire Agent 00 trilogy, as well as the trailer for this movie that made me laugh to tears. And since these films are one field of berries, I decided to evaluate the adventures of a small man in the big world in full version, the benefit in the free access of the film is, and in English dubbing, which is already wild, since it seems to me that this idea has not paid off.
In order to avoid unfounded criticism (although who will read this if the film was watched by only three people) I will say right away: personally I have nothing against Wen Wen and, for that matter, I think that he is good, that, despite his illness, starred in the movies and allowed people to laugh at him. But since it is necessary to evaluate, first of all, the film, I will say right away - it is a rather mediocre comedy and parody.
You could even say that it was obvious from the beginning, after all, Filipino cinema is not so famous. But even with a small budget, with great talent, you can make a good film, which, although it will not be known throughout the world, but will find its fans. We have a very mediocre parody of James Bond.
What should be the first thing in the movie to keep the audience? A story I didn’t see in this movie. For an hour and a half, we are shown a set of episodes where the brave 83-centimeter hero proves his superiority to a crowd of tall bad guys, while managing to use a whole arsenal of ridiculous gadgets, light up on the dance floor and seduce all the girls on his way to the main villain. Yes, agent 007 did the same thing, but in the films about him everything was logical, while here we see some magical Filipino montage, when a second ago the hero beat the face of another big guy, and now he is already in full light with some maid in the club, and the plot is not explained. To me, it would be the same if, in the middle of Doctor No, James Bond scored on a mission and instead of making his way to the forbidden island, went fishing with friends, girls and a box of beer. Ridiculous? Yeah, but the whole movie is made up of those episodes.
For example, in the middle of the movie, Agent 00 dominates the others, only this time in a hotel. And now, hiding from the chase, he runs into a room where a strange woman lies and reads a book. And she is strange in that she does not say anything, does not shout, does not react at all to the appearance of an unexpected guest. It seems that a hundred such dwarfs run through her room every day. Although her silence was more than repaid by a small womanizer who grabbed another girl’s heart in his tenacious hands. What's next? Then he flies away on an umbrella from his pursuers, and another episode of the film begins, little related to what happened on the screen all these five minutes.
And at the end, we should note the soundtrack of this film. Throughout the film plays only 4 (!!) songs, and they even somehow did not manage to weave normally in the film. In normal films, the music subsides for a couple of minutes, the characters confer, talk, and then the music is unobtrusively turned on again, and, most often, another. Immediately everything looks something like this: a two-key melody plays, then it abruptly ends, the characters talk, and after that the melody continues to play exactly from the moment it stopped. To be honest, it seems to me that the sound engineer sat with the microphone in his right hand and held the left one on the Stop button on the old Electronics-301 tape recorder. Or the sound was made by some uncle Yasha of a local bodun spill for a bottle of sake. Although now I know what will play in hell when my heels are burned.
In general, there are good parodies ("The Naked Gun, for example), and there are such as this film. Unfortunately, he is ridiculous not by originality, but by poverty. And as a set of funny episodes from the life of the agent (like the TV magazine "Calambure") it could well roll. But as a result, we have a full-length picture with a bad plot, musical accompaniment and a funny ridiculous main character, which, in fact, is nothing.
