The story of Irish John Smith and his Pocahontas The vast majority of viewers have never heard of the adventure film “Kylian’s Chronicle: The Magic Stone” (based on the title, one should not conclude that this is a fantasy story). It is hardly a joke to say that the Chronicle ... does not get twenty votes, evaluating it on the PC (on IMDb, incidentally, too). But I must say that personally I asked myself to search for this tape for viewing were recommendations on the KP to the famous James Cameron tape “Avatar”.
But honestly, this recommendation is somewhat surprising, because if “Avatar” is motion capture fiction, but “Kylian’s Chronicle”: The Magic Stone is an adventure, as mentioned above, with an admixture of historical fiction and romance, where without it. But it is worth going back to why the Chronicle... was so unknown. No one would be wrong to say that this film is low-budget. Secondly, it is a film made for television. Thirdly, none of the creative group of creators or from the acting ensemble has any cinematic fame.
In general, most likely, the main inspiration of the project is Pamela Berger, who became the director, screenwriter and producer of the film. In her track record, there are only two films in general: one of them did not even get our rental title, well, for Kylian's Chronicle: The magic stone is already understood by many. And now it is worth saying about the plot, especially since the preliminary description on the PC says very little about the film itself. Indeed, according to the plot, a Viking ship with a slave from Ireland Kylian and his sister fall to the land that will soon be called the New World. There they encounter the Indians, a hospitable people, but the Vikings are militant and a short brawl began. After it, Kylian manages to escape with the same “magic stone”, in fact, we can consider him the guiding forefather of the compass. Kilian is kind at heart, but hides alone, dreaming of going home. But still, acquaintance with the aborigines is happening. And then you will find out for yourself if you suddenly get this film.
As for the feelings of all seen, I want to emphasize that despite the small budget, it does not cause antipathy. Pamela Berger managed to squeeze the maximum out of the minimum. Very good picture, well-chosen landscapes for field shooting. Of course, “The Chronicle...” is the highest level of independent low-budget cinema, but the picture is watchable and sometimes even very curious. The acting also does not shine with the depth of emotions and feelings, but still there is no falsehood in it, maybe that is why the picture strongly resembles the familiar plot about the pamper Pocahontas. The only thing that was very embarrassing - the Vikings are shown in an extremely negative light, but maybe this emphasizes the essence of the conflict, where any viewer, I am sure, will be on the side of Kilian and the Indians (as we all did when watching one of the series "In Search of Captain Grant" outstanding Stanislav Govorukhin).
