A streetcar It is not easy to write a review of this film, because it touches on serious social issues from the point of view from which they should be covered. Of course, after Mysterious Skin, it is almost impossible to shock me with any film, but if I had seen the first film, I would have been shocked by it. Given the themes of the problems covered, the picture is shot in relatively decent tones, in contrast to the same “Mandragora”.
A homeless man. What about a street boy? The boy has a mother and a stepfather. The problem of female alcoholism, drinking parents and domestic violence is touched upon. Looking at the screen, you are not surprised by what they show. All these unnatural things going on in Axel’s family seem completely natural inside her. And the mother, sluggishly protecting her son, as if for a pro-forma, shortly before sending Axel to his clients, does not seem to be anything supernatural.
At the same time, Karl-Heinz does not look like a terrible pervert and molester of minors, but gives the impression of a decent person not only by his appearance, but also by his actions. After watching, I asked myself, “Did he do more for Axl than his mother?” Such a seditious question that came to my mind shocked me. I wanted to shout in my voice, "No!" Such a person cannot do anything good for a child. But I couldn't. Because I understood that Karl-Heinz really did more for Axl than the boy’s own mother, who sent him to prostitution herself and demanded that she give her money.
I was impressed by the monologue of an old prostitute. In my opinion, the filmmakers acted brilliantly here. To put such words in the mouth of the representative of the oldest profession, the meaning of which is worthy of philosophers. It's a masterpiece!
In general, I liked the film, but it is worth setting a reasonable age limit.
