"White Fang" and "Call of the Ancestors" give together a rattling mixture. Few people have ever seen this movie or even heard of it. In general, it is curious that the American edition for some reason called this cartoon “White Fang”, although the cartoon has nothing to do with the story of Jack London. Although this anime was created under the inspiration of two stories in London - "White Fang" and "Call of the Ancestors", as well as the story by Mel Ellis. Indeed, here, as in the Fang, wolves and the cruelty of people, self-sacrifice and a difficult spiritual path, communication with nature and understanding of a living being; but also as in the Call, survival and return to their distant ancestors, a return to the howling of the cold northern wind, to the great song of the wolf pack, to the snowy mighty forests.
You worry about the characters, the relationship between them and all the intensity of emotions and passions is simply perfectly shown. The boy’s dedication and care for the wolf is touching. Characters feel, experience and try to solve problems. In principle, the elaboration and all the twists of the plot are quite competent.
In terms of drawing and music, the year 90 is phenomenal. The wolf is really handsome. Powerful, white as the northern surface, with an unflappable but sensual look. Backgrounds (forests, mountains, rivers, snow-capped hills) are depicted in muted soft tones - both spectacle and tranquility. So the overall style is beautiful. Sometimes you'll be surprised.
I really liked the final goodbye. That heartbreaking wolf howl. In which all sorrow, all release, purification and deliverance are visible, but hope is visible and you will never forget that help and kindness. I know it’s not very clear, but the ending is really beautiful and touching.
I won’t tell you much, but this cartoon is extremely difficult to find, so I would really like someone to find, translate, pick up good actors dubbing, and show on TV.
