"Special Sanx" Forer! In my "authoritative" opinion, Alfred Forer, director of the late series of West German adventure detectives "on the topic" Edgar Wallace (I will say this, because, unlike previous similar paintings of the early 60s of the last century, I was not able to identify Wallace’s novels by late film material, much modernized, and sometimes not at all corresponding to the name, as it was with the “Blue Hand”, about which see the film page) here surpassed himself in terms of “English” humor, irony and in general, as they succinctly say, the banter.
So on this page you should make an amendment in the column “Genre”, where you just need to write “comedy (ironic) detective”. True, because one Scotland Sergeant Pepper (!!) with a hairstyle “a la Beatles” (here’s a sign of time!) causes “smart”, “understanding” laughter (I imagine how the audience laughed at the time). And in general, the film is exciting, colorful (I liked the design of the initial credits in the style of neon advertising - it looks very modern, especially since this technique was later repeatedly used by Hollywood filmmakers and not only). But here's the trend: from Wallace's film to film, from early to late, actors are given less and less time to "play face" on close-ups. Growing dynamics and popsovnost to blame. What they led to, we see on modern wide screens.
Purely informative. I would like to know how the then West Germans managed to “oven” “Wallace” films like pancakes, and at the highest level, not like our current TV series? Up to two, if not more, films were released a year, mainly at the Constantinfilm studio! Wallace himself “baked” his novels-novels even faster (perhaps that’s why he “fried” in 1932?). Was there a real German film conveyor? In general, the theme of “Wallace” films is fertile for writing term papers (diploma) for students of the corresponding specialties of VGIK, and even for a candidate, if you dig deeply. So I, a person interested in Wallace, would be grateful to my friends on the site and specialists - do not deny possible information, send at least a link on this topic!
