The American Civil War of 1861-65. Northern Army Lieutenant Frank Hewitt witnesses the destruction of an Indian village. He realizes that now the Indians will take revenge and flee to warn of the danger of the inhabitants of his native settlement in Texas. But there he is considered a traitor, besides, only women remained in the village, all the men went to war. Not immediately did they believe the lieutenant. But when he brings the corpse of a white girl killed nearby by the Indians, under his leadership, they began to organize defense. and somewhere nearby, not only Indians, but also bandits prowl.
A very good western, where Odie Murphy plays the main role and acts as a producer. He looks great as a brave lieutenant. There is a lot of humor in the picture, but at the same time the scene of the defense of the fort by a detachment of women under the leadership of Hewitt is very dramatic and avoids naivety (without victims from the defenders was not done). There is a love triangle (without romance in such a plot can not).
The most striking of the female composition is the heroine Hope Emerson, appointed the hero Murphy "Sergeant". This strong as an axe, domineering and formidable-looking lady famously manages with weapons and her female combat squad. And pretty Catherine Grant, the future wife of Bing Crosby, best known for her role as a princess in Sinbad’s Seventh Journey.
For directing is an experienced Hollywood professional George Marshall, who shot many worthy westerns (" Destri is back in the saddle, Texas, Shepherd). So it turned out a good sample of the genre, competently combining humorous and dramatic moments. Moreover, there are few westerns where almost all the main characters are female.
