It is impossible not to appreciate the influence of the series “Colombo” on the genre of detectives. It's not like movies like this haven't come out before. We did, of course we did. These were interesting and mostly not stupid stories that had their own charm, but it was “Colombo” that instilled the love of the mass audience to the detective genre. In this series, plot moves appeared, which were later used in other detectives, and the main character himself became a parable in tongue. He and his mysterious wife, and if you believe the "Old Port" series, then also children. Time after time, the series brought something new, interesting, unusual. At least it was about the early series. With the series that came out in the nineties, the situation was somewhat different. There, for the most part, the directors tried to preserve the spirit of the original slowly experimenting or bringing something new. Is that bad? On the one hand, yes, because stagnation has never led to anything good. On the other hand, if the spirit of the series has been preserved, if Peter Falk’s character is still able to bring a warm smile, and the investigation does not let you get bored, then maybe you should not be upset. Well, not perfect, but it's more of a farewell to Lieutenant Colombo and a reminder of why we love him. And we love him for the car-wreck, the battered gray cloak, and also the dog whose universal boredom froze on the face. And all of that is in this series. What is the reason to be happy?
Wade Anderson is the host of the eleven-hour news, and also a talk show related to the search for dangerous criminals. Naturally, such a person has enemies. There can be none. One of these people is Bud Clarke, whom Wade has deprived of his job, figuratively speaking. Bud is not enthusiastic about this and tries to somehow mess with his colleague, here is at least found a videotape with a porn film, where Wade Anderson acts as a hero, and a minor maiden as a heroine. This smells like a serious scandal, and therefore you can try to blackmail a famous TV presenter. In theory. In practice, everything leads to the fact that Wade will treat Bud with a cigarette filled with nicotine sulfate, which will kill the latter. Well, the Colombo series has repeatedly demonstrated that blackmail does not bring good, and the hero of Peter Falk repeatedly faced the consequences and proved to others that justice will overtake everyone.
Actually, that's it. The crime is perfect, but Wade Anderson leaves a seemingly perfect crime with a dozen loopholes that draws attention not only to Colombo, but also to the viewer. Yes, there used to be evidence that could build a logical chain, but then it was much harder to find. In the same series, the director seems to flirt with the viewer, throwing one evidence after another. And Colombo has already figured out this case, his hero rather gives us the opportunity to bring the entire logical chain together, and at the same time a little more nervous Wade Anderson with his antics. I'd love to add something to it, but I can't. Secondary actors are extras. George Hamilton, who played Wade, showed nothing special. The investigation itself, although fascinating, is quite simple. Humor is present and can still cause a smile. So I have no choice but to recommend this series to the fans of “Colombo”, all the rest of the viewing exclusively on request.
