Socio-political eroticism Very strange movie. On the one hand, there are more sex scenes there than in all the other Indian films I've seen before combined. At the same time, sex is purely physiological, animal, that is, it is not necessary to reveal the seriousness of the relationship. On the other hand, the film raises serious political and social problems in India. And the film is not made in a romantic style, it is not a masala, not an action movie, not a comedy. It is a drama, and with subtle clever satire. From the bottom, the actors play naturally, there is no usual for Indian films replay and pathos, but on the other hand, in tense moments, close-ups show the face of the actor, and zero emotions on him.
Sometimes I just don’t understand why the hero acts one way or another. Very mixed impression. I remember how often foreigners praise Dostoevsky, who shows the “mysterious Russian soul.” In my opinion, this film shows the mystery of Indian behavior. About a third of the actions I did not understand and found no motive for such behavior.
An unusual combination of lyrically beautiful landscapes with trucks carrying stones to the quarry, then with coal mining or dusty roads - such a kind of dissonance between the beautiful rich nature and the hard life of ordinary Indian women, passing in labor and care. India is shown from a very unusual angle. Strange movie, strange feeling after watching.
