Jeff King — Rocket Man. The film, or rather the series "Jeff King - Rocket Man" in the spirit of comics, released Republic Pictures. "King of the Rocket Men" has received a number of sequels in the form of series, was remodeled into films, served as inspiration for the creators of comics and filmmakers, and has many references (including in such creations as "The Rocketeer", "Star Wars" and "Star Trek").
Speaking of directing, it is worth noting that there is nothing to blame here, especially when you consider that this is a series of the late 40s. Even for a full meter picture would be nice. Fred S. Brannon, who worked on 40 projects for 14 years, if he worked on quantity, then quality did not suffer from this.
But the script is not so smooth. Rocket Man, being one big movie (almost 3 hours) in 12 parts (the subsequent series are not counted), is full of self-repeats and predictability. Even if we take into account that many movie comics sin this, here it is too much. The first episode (lasting 20 minutes) seems ready to interest, but the next 12 (lasting 13 minutes each) – less and less. The writers were lazy, and most of the series will go according to the worked-out scheme. Even the endings look the same. It spoils the overall impression. But that’s not all — there are still characters that don’t catch on, which is just awful for this kind of movie. No, there are a couple of three curious heroes, but those are merged.
Acting is at a level that saves the situation a little, but only a little. I don’t remember a movie where the characters were as boring. The problem is again in the script of the picture, not in the work of the artists.
Jeff King's soundtrack is good, the spirit of the times is present. It's the same for intro.
The language won’t turn around calling King of the Rocket Men a bad movie, but for all its merits, the script is disappointing. Three hours is a lot for him. Even fans of superheroics, who do not disdain films that are more than half a century old, may end up disappointed. I don’t recommend watching it as awesome. I don’t regret watching it, but Jeff King is Rocket Man doesn’t get into my collection.
