Dog food. The short meter is a genre that can easily disappoint or just as easily surprise. You never know where the avant-garde creation of the director will lean this time, you never know what to expect the next minute. I’m lucky that there are many more good short films, and this one is no exception.
The description on KinoPoisk is extremely scanty, so I will introduce you to the course of things: a young pleasant guy lives with a dog, plays with it, loves it. He receives letters every morning with moths and threats. Why? Because the guy's a butcher. He does his job day in and day out, maybe he loves it, maybe he doesn’t, but work is work. It is visited occasionally by visitors, including the beautiful girl Amanda Seifred. And one day the dog of the main character disappears. Three days later, when all hope is lost, the girl goes to the store to the main character and offers him to relax on a date.
For a second, I was surprised by how easily the main character agreed to a date with a girl, but after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that this is logical. The dog on the third day, if it is missing, it is almost impossible to find it yourself, all the tears have already been cried and the best way to move away from everything is just a date.
Everything that happens next is quite natural for short films. I, a burnt lover of psychological thrillers, the plot was not surprised, however, as always. I’ve been enjoying filmmaking lately.
A very pleasant picture and sound design (practically absent, which only adds to the atmosphere of everyday life), an excellent cast (unexpectedly Amanda Seifred in the frame), good camera work. There are no technical flaws in Dog Food.
I really liked this picture, it is worth seeing and is worth a positive review. If it were a big movie, it would be banal and boring, but it would be perfect.
