Beautiful and determined. Austrian cinema has a long history, which dates back to the beginning of the XX century. But there were few really significant paintings in this country. The main array of Austrian cinema is unassuming entertainment films, most often comedies. When censorship became less strict in the second half of the sixties, erotic elements were often added to comedy. This film is no exception, the title of which is best translated as “Suzanne, the innkeeper from Lan”.
The film takes place in 1810, during the Napoleonic Wars. The main character is an ambitious courtesan Suzanne Delberg, who inherits a seedy tavern and with the help of her acting friends turns it into a respectable hotel. Suzanne's detractors try to discredit her establishment by spreading rumors that it is actually a brothel. Meanwhile, Suzanne herself falls in love with Anselmo, the leader of the student community. Together they are trying to thwart a coup d’etat, which is started by the treacherous governor.
The cast of the tape is quite curious. The title role is played by Hungarian actress Teri Tordai, who after this film became a sex symbol in German-speaking countries, which ensured her long and successful career. And the performer of the role of Anselmo Mike Marshall (son of the famous French actress Michelle Morgan) is best known for the role of a young pilot Alan Mackintosh in the legendary comedy “The Great Walk” with Bourville and Louis de Funes in the lead roles. He also starred in the Soviet film Tehran-43. As for the film as a whole, this is not a very successful attempt to combine a historical film with an erotic comedy. Nevertheless, the picture enjoyed considerable success with the audience and received as many as five sequels, which were released until 1973.
