Due to regular actions from visitors there is no break. But the case of “Honest Goro” is nowhere worse. Revenue is constantly falling. The owner of the store Goro once meets his classmate, and she came to his store, horrified. She decides to go to work and make the supermarket a leader. Reforms are undertaken in the most thorough way. Many traditions have to be broken despite the opposition of workers. The world of profitable transactions does not sleep either. He goes to all possible tricks to destroy a competitor. And by offering to buy a store, and by bribing employees and even by elementary theft of meat.
The Woman from the Supermarket is definitely a production movie. This is a short encyclopedia of marketing and management in relation to the grocery store. Hanako, who meets Goro, aims to turn the store into a favorite place for shoppers. She consistently abandons all the tricks used before. Among them, the use of only old meat for minced meat, mixing cheap caviar into cod caviar, repackaging yesterday's dishes, replacing expensive Japanese meat with cheap imported and so on. All this Hanako declares “outlawed”. But this is only part of the reform. She has to confront the old-timers of the store. For example, with a sasimi master who does not allow young workers to work. It is also trying to introduce a conveyor system of production to speed up the manufacture of products.
Despite not very interesting content, Juzo Itami managed to make a very dramatic film on the topic of food competition. The confrontation between the two shops sometimes reaches almost the level of confrontation between the yakuza clans, except without shooting and violence. Hanako is trying to bring to life the idea that being honest is ultimately better for everyone. The film, while maintaining in general seriousness, teeters on the verge of comedy and farce, which makes it boring. In general, this is an original work on a non-standard topic, which, by the way, curiously shows that the Japanese are not so different from the rest of the world.
