So came to the end of our week of watching Soviet cartoons, according to the works of writers from different countries. The truth about "Lolo Penguin", and I do not know whether this work was originally written by Japanese writers, or they simply participated in the joint writing of the cartoon script, but at least this wonderful animated series "The Adventures of Lolo Penguin" - the result of cooperation between Soviet and Japanese animators who managed to harmoniously combine the best domestic traditions and the style of Japanese anime.
A unique project, which lasted almost eight years. Viewers will definitely like the curious penguin Lolo and his charming girlfriend Pepe, who live on the southern edge of the globe, in the ice of snow-white Antarctica along with other penguins. The trilogy of polar inhabitants tells a lot of details about the inhabitants of cold lands, will introduce them to their habits, how penguins build nests from stones, catch fish, take care of their offspring. There will also be a meeting with violent poachers, because of which Lolo and Pepe will get into serious trouble. Spectators are waiting for a lot of experiences, because the penguin life is difficult and dangerous, but the main characters do not lose heart: together they can do a lot!
The original animated film was created by Takeo Nishiguchi, who sought co-production with Soviet animation. He contacted them in 1980, and the development of the cartoon took several years. During this time, the Soviet animation industry received film equipment widely used in Japan. The film marks the first collaboration between the Soviet Union and Japan in an animated film. The cartoon was animated in 1986 by Soyuzmultfilm, produced jointly by Soyuzmultfilm and the Japanese Lifework Corporation with the music of Masahito Maruyama. The Russian version premiered on Soviet television in 1987, while the Japanese version was released on OVA in 1988.
Additional takes Lolo were made in Estonian, Czech, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Finnish, German, Swedish, Portuguese, Danish, Bulgarian, Serbian, French, Arabic, Hungarian and Polish.

I have watched the movie with pleasure! I’ve always loved penguins like Lolo, Pepe, and Mac, and how they escaped poachers was something! I still remember the moment they tried to open the cage.
Elegant cartoon - cute, colorful, high-quality, interesting. Little penguins always get into an unpleasant situation, from which they try to get out on their own. The voiceover of the characters by the star cast of our cinema once again sets up for watching the cartoon.

The cartoon is really worthwhile, with meaning and with morality. In it, the authors, using a story about the life of penguins, convey to children in a playful form the main, important values of life. They also show that penguins live by some rules, that they are taught skills for survival, because they are constantly in danger from the ground, from the air and from the water. Here it is very well shown how important friendship (Mimi and Lolo, Lolo and dogs): that with a friend is not afraid of any trouble, that you need to empathize and help each other both in joy and in trouble, then you can avoid many troubles, defeat enemies. In short, friendship is a great force that will overcome everything in its path.
The film is infinitely sweet and kind. Penguins are like penguins, birds are like birds, and people are like people. Because in modern cartoons, sometimes, I do not understand what kind of animals there are and what they are called, some mutants. And I don't like it. And here are all pretty, everything is beautiful, kind, no aggression, voiced very well, separately adult voices, separately children's. I myself received a lot of pleasure from the revision and again plunged into childhood. I highly recommend showing children such kind cartoons, instead of ugly monsters and such where there are many fights and cruelty. History clearly shows the difference between good and evil. Take, for example, people from a research station who protected penguins when they were near buildings and brought them back home. And poachers who, in order to please their mercantile and greedy goals, hunted for the main characters of the cartoon. Also, quite clearly shows the result of what can be if you do not fully obey the elders.
The film must be shown to children. I think since I was 6. Even though there are no childhood moments at the end. But when watching with adults who will explain what is what, the process of perception by children can be painless, not so impressionable. In me, it causes at the same time a feeling of anxiety and calm, joy and sadness, satisfaction and understatement. A kind, instructive cartoon. And the animation, the graphics, what a ! No worse than Disney cartoons. They were able to create such beautiful cartoons, and here also together with the Japanese.
Watch with the kids and make sure to take stock at the end. The film is a great example of conversation and caution for our children. A beautiful example of a children's cartoon, to which modern animators should strive. Despite the fact that modern technology has stepped forward, "The Adventures of the penguin Lolo" look in one breath. As a mother, it is important to me that there are moral components in the cartoon. Show the family what it should be - friendly, strong. The attitude of parents to their baby penguin is caring, gentle, somewhat instructive on the part of the father.
The cartoon is informative, very interesting and kind . Obedience, patience, friendship and love - that was the meaning and main idea of the authors. Let’s be kind to each other and everything will be fine! And the presence of parents, older brothers or other relatives will only help to better and more accurately perceive this interesting, instructive, and educational story. And for the musical design of the Japanese team, I will add a special thank you. After all, there is something so magical and mysterious in them that gives this cartoon only a positive connotation. They are very grateful to the audience.

It is pleasantly surprising that back in the 1980s there was a cartoon co-production of the USSR and Japan. "The Adventures of Penguin Lolo" can not be called reliable from the point of view of biology, but compared to other Soviet cartoons here much more interesting facts and ... about herbivorous dragonflies and grain-eating moles can safely forget.

Lolo and his parents are typical adelie penguins who live, as they should, in colonies where the couple take turns hatching eggs. Let’s not forget that the events take place in Antarctica, where there are no land predators, but there is such an unpleasant phenomenon as blizzards, and the temperature drops to minus 80, if not lower. The threat to the chicks that have not yet hatched is the seagulls, which I personally learned about as a child thanks to Lolo Penguin. The first part of the trilogy is devoted not to Lolo himself, but to the background of his birth, and here all the main pros and cons are found.
The main drawback is that the artists allowed themselves to depict too freely the sexual differences between individuals of adeles. In fact, these penguins are black with a white belly, while in the cartoon, males are both black and blue, and females are even brown. But since the strength of the cartoon is a reliable display of the struggle for survival, such a shortcoming can be forgiven. It is only a pity that the music here is unsuccessful - too cut into memory because of its tragedy.
As a work of fiction, “The Adventures of the Penguin Lolo” can be an excellent cartoon that will make viewers want to explore the real nature.

For Soviet cartoons I do not leave reviews at all. For the simple reason that they are all created at the highest level, even if you put 10 out of 10 (or 9 out of 10). I want to avoid tautology. But I wanted to leave a review for the cartoon about Lolo and Pepe, because one moment is very exciting.
Of course, the cartoon is good. It is shown almost every night on Plus Plus. And I don't get tired of watching it or turning it on, as they say, for the background. The cartoon is colorful, bright, made in pleasant bluish-white colors: the colors of ice, sea and sky. Penguins differ from each other quite a bit in physique and color, but these colors are not “acid”, pleasant to the eye.
I like the way other animals are told along the way: who is for sea lion penguins, who is an orca, who is a moron. Children can easily explain who are friends, who are enemies, and the emphasis on the fact that the bird is the main enemy. This is no worse than in the foreign “Make Feet”. And for a child of preschool or primary school age, probably even more useful, because nothing superfluous: cognitive information and understandable plot.
Care of parents, responsibility for each other parents and children, friendship, mutual assistance - all that should be brought up in children (and some adults would not hurt to cultivate these qualities) is.
I am very concerned about some aspects of education. This gives a certain incompetence and “standard” upbringing, without an individual approach to the child, without understanding his feelings. It is clear that such education was in the Union and still remains, but I cannot ignore its shortcomings.
1) Parents lie, do not tell, stumble before the answer or even leave it. Why do N and M live together and I live alone? “Because... because... (pause again) it happened.” Of course, to tell the terrible truth in detail is also not very good, you can greatly scare the child. But you could say, "There was a misfortune," and without hesitation. This is more honest.

2) They do not listen to children, to their joyful desires and events. In the fact that the penguin has a friend, the father sees only disobedience: left without asking.
(3) Immediately following the continuation of the second paragraph. The parent's reaction is, "I have to punish you." And he hits the butt. Corporal punishment is the norm. And the norm is not to resist, not to cry, not to demand conversation. The little moviegoer absorbs that if he is hit on the butt, it is normal, and normal adequate conversation with the parent, which would find out all the pros and cons of walking Pepe. You can say that I exaggerate, because the penguin is still to blame, because it did not hurt. Whether it hurts or not, below the back, on the hands or on the lips – in any case, this is both physical and moral humiliation. These are unacceptable actions. Oh, and none of the three adult penguins stopped their father. They watched with approving smiles and frowning eyebrows the actions of the Pope.
(4) Nothing is explained. “You can’t do that” simply because you can’t. By the way, none of the many "Why?" penguin parents really answered. Shut up, cheat. The curiosity of the child is presented as a negative rather than a positive quality. Explanation: the inquisitive goes somewhere and necessarily gets into trouble. Why, by the way, do children not care much? Maybe because the parents, fearing trouble, broke the child and forbade everything. In one of the series, curiosity ultimately leads to a positive outcome: after going through adventures, penguins find a new friend, and they become older, stronger, wiser. I think I really like this moment.

(5) Typical parents. I don't know if it's plus or minus. The gender distribution of roles in parental life is shown: the father is strict, verbose and uses punishments more often; the mother talks more with the child, explains more (albeit not very well), is affectionate (strokes the penguin on the head).
In general, I still like it, and this cartoon is an example of good joint work (USSR and Japan).

“The Adventures of the Penguin Lolo” (1986-1987) is a joint work of two states – Japan and the USSR.
(For those who don’t know, the USSR is a country made up of different regions and regions, closely linked by borders that separated one nation, with culture, traditions, and customs, from another.) The differences also consisted of the languages available in these areas and the history of the region itself.
In other words, the USSR, in its image and likeness, was close to the same United States of America, folded into one whole. Dividing it into parts would make 50 separate states, each with its own peculiarity. This is actually a lot less...

I was pleased to learn that the main initiators of this work were Japanese producers, animators and filmmakers. Like, it is not known how we will be treated in the USSR, but you can try your luck.
And they did it! Choosing an interesting topic (which will not compromise and will not perplex both sides), two friendly teams came up with and made a beautiful cartoon about Adélie penguins.
By the way! Do you know why these penguins are called that? Nope? Well, I'll tell you that.

One famous French traveler (navigator, oceanographer, naval officer and scientist), named Jules Sebastien César Dumont-Durville (1790-1842), discovered part of Antarctica, which he named in honor of his wife - Adele. And the penguins (whose species were not determined) lived exactly on this very earth! So they got this beautiful female name - Adele.
After you beautifully describe the life of penguins and tell where and how they live, you will meet the leader of one of the packs, his family and a charming baby named Lolo.
With the eyes of this Lolo, you will feel everything that this species of penguins experiences.
Insidious south polar seabirds, large toothy killer whales, quiet-looking leopard seals (however, try, come, especially in the water), poachers, whales, Eskimos, dogs, elephant seals. Which of them is a friend, and which enemy you will figure out by watching this story.
