Adventurer Frenchy Fontaine sells her successful gambling business in New Orleans and comes to her hometown, which she left as a child. Her goal is to find and destroy the people who killed her father. But she only knows the name of one of them and wants to find out who the other is. At the same time, former Sheriff Tom Benning comes to the city.
"French" or "French Woman" is a bright and funny western in the colors of Technicolor. The plot clearly uses motifs from the famous film “Destris is back in the saddle”, too much sheriff played by Joel McCree resembles the hero James Stewart, using similar metaphors about his friends in conversation, and there are other similarities. I consider 1939 to be one of the best comedy westerns, but this film is quite independent.
McCree and Shelly Winters make up a good couple, in the background there are enough famous actors (George Cleveland, Elsa Lanchester, Paul Kelly, Marie Windsor). Quite dynamic action, there are many funny moments.
A good and enjoyable entertaining movie. It is possible to recommend not only fans of the Western, but also all fans of the classics of Hollywood.
