Finding a father Another picture I was able to see at the Brazilian Film Festival was "Search". This time - a typical road-movie, a trip through Brazil, where the color of this country is captured, except that there are no wild monkeys. The film begins as a Brazilian series (not surprisingly, the production is Globo), with all the usual passions, gestures, arguments, quarrels, passionate scenes: in general, the life of Latinos as we imagine them. But what is happening in the future increasingly leads us away from stereotypes, showing the country more diverse, albeit still as hot, emotional and extravagant.
The story revolves around the disappearance of a talented boy, Pedro, who wants to paint and be free, while his father dreams of a good education for him and a life abroad somewhere in Australia. The difference in ideas of happiness leads to family conflict and the subsequent flight of the child on a black horse. Parents of the child, not fully understood in their own relationship, are forced to forget about everything and focus on finding a child.
The central character in this story is the father of a boy who at times turns from a rather businesslike and tough man into a touching father who suddenly learns a lot about his child, and this new one is so touching for him that it changes himself and his views on life. The journey begins as an angry parent chasing after his son, but the farther he races in his silver SUV, the clearer it is to see that the anger has long gone, and anxiety has come, sometimes mixed with tenderness. It seems ridiculous and strange that a father in a powerful car can not catch up with a child on a horse, but it is so: the boy always eludes, overtakes, a little, but in front. A father should catch up with his son only when he is ready. First the father looks for the child, then he also looks for news about the child: any, up to the impressions that the child made on others. It seems that he will rediscover his fatherhood and recognize his son.
On the way he meets a variety of people: from a remote poor village, where the phone is a luxury, to cheerful carefree young people who go to a music festival. He seems to be constantly trying to figure out what his son would do, what he would do, and he does not always understand, and this despair is reflected on his face. And everywhere - everywhere - the hero has to look for a common language with residents, as they are very passionate about their own problems, and strangers do not care. His misfortune, his fear, his horror do not cause sympathy at all. The secured hero is pouring money, as if showing by his example that almost everything is sold, even compassion. But sometimes money does not help: your own shirt is closer to your body, and the hero feels what it feels like when you are not heard and do not want to hear. The hero is constantly forced to wade through misunderstanding, lack of interest, indifference: in general, through everything that he himself personified before.
But sometimes he selflessly helps, and sometimes selflessly helps him. It seems that fate pays him what he did himself: once he does something good, it comes back. Sometimes it seems that he is desperate: even alarming rumors about his son calm him down, but at the same time strengthen his desire to move forward. The hero's armor cracks, exposing his heart, leading to an understanding of who he needs and who needs him himself.
The picture is funny, sometimes melancholy. It will be clear to any unprepared viewer. Any person will get what he wanted: there is a place for pleasant views of the country, the sun, water, and reasoning about the meaning of life and the ability to understand and hear each other. The picture is about a fairly ordinary event without conspiracy theories, spy passions. The film gives an opportunity to look into the life of an ordinary family, imbue them with their life and understand them a little better, which is great.
