The little man is the foundation of all mankind. But nobody ever remembers that. This movie got very hooked, just took my whole soul out of me. So bitter over the fate of the character, I've never cried. I just can't find words to describe everything. A very “spiritual” film, you can’t say otherwise. There are no special effects, winding songs (although all the songs that Kasi sang are very touching and soulful, reflecting the whole essence of his bright soul and very hard life), glamorous costumes, but some in the film naturalness and "reality". I don’t know how to express it... it just feels like it after watching.
And most importantly, it has both subtitles and voiceovers. I naturally watched with voiceovers, because such films can not be watched distracted by reading the subtitles, otherwise you miss the whole essence and the whole meaning of the film.
In an unusually picturesque Indian village, among palm groves and transparent waterfalls, lives a blind singer, the only breadwinner of his poor family. Despite the selfless daily work and care, only the mother and younger sister, who for the sake of her brother is ready for anything, from the brother-alkasha and the father-disabled drone (oh how I wanted to strangle both, for everything they did with the poor guy Kasi, such bastards are not even sorry to strangle or nail anything, only it will be easier for people, and the Earth will be humiliated only from these two). Fortunately, there are still loving people in his life - a girlfriend Caveri and a friend, a local diner owner, an old laundress and other villagers who regret Kasi and many treat him well.
Life problems come one by one, but after periods of grief and disappointment, Kasi, with his childishly open and kind soul, is reborn again and again for love and hope. In the village after a long absence comes Mr. Raghupati, "native father" for all the local poor, but in fact, as always, disgusting and scum are few. He promises Kasi to pay for eye surgery. Time will solve all problems.
A touching, artless story told from the heart. Subtle and honest play of all actors, first of all the main actor - Vikram, completely dissolved in his character. In this film there are no exquisite outfits, special effects, complex scenes or tricks. But there is the main thing for which a good movie is made - emotionality and depth. Simple, sincere dialogues, the absence of unnecessary details, believable characters and freedom from excessive pathos will undoubtedly affect the viewer, who is inclined to expect from the cinema a reason for experience and reflection.
Chiyan Vikram is simply incredible. This is only the third film in my life that I watch with this actor. To convey emotions through facial expressions, using only the muscles of the face, so reliably, without using the most expressive means - eyes - supreme skill! I believe everything! Every movement, every gesture, every breath, there was a feeling that he was really blind. And his despair was mine. A person born blind is unlikely to have a different facial expression. He doesn't see in the mirror whether it's beautiful, whether the people around him like it, and my parents, I think, didn't pay much attention to it, to prompt, to pull. People who are uneducated, and of course, they believe whatever the educated, rich "master" who is so "kind" to them tells them. And their willingness to give, in fact, the only thing they have, this unsophisticated generosity touched me personally. Everything seemed to me smoothly flowing, and believable. Quite an ordinary family, nothing out of the ordinary. And given the Indian mentality, nothing is impossible, I think.
Vikram like the sun, with his voice, smile just warmed the space. I quickly got used to him like that. Both his sister and his girlfriend are absolutely amazing girls. Everything is so simple and touching. Vikram in such dramatic roles - master! Takes for the soul and long afterwards depart from the impression after watching the film.
It turns out that this film, a remake of the Teluga film, wrote that the Teluga version was a huge success, so the Tamil version was immediately removed. In the Teluga version Kasi played Mohanlal, an uncle from Maniratnamovsky "Duet" (Iruvar), such a chin, cute very.
The film received mostly positive reviews from critics. The Indians welcomed the unconventional attempt, saying: A film without predictable ingredients is a rarity. The crew of the film should be appreciated for their courage to tell the story in a simple, straightforward way without the inevitable distractions. The image of a blind man Vikram, was appreciated by the audience: "As a blind man, with completely closed eyes and with twitching faces, so typical for the visually impaired, his portrait is realistic". The two main actresses also received recognition, Kavia Madhavan and Kaveri perfectly coped with their images (by the way, I saw both for the first time), their expressive eyes penetrate into the very depths of the soul.
This is an emotionally powerful movie. In the film, there are many secondary characters who also have a great influence on the viewer, both positive and negative.
Watch those who like movies-thinking, realistic stories that make you think about what is happening in this world mess, and those who often think about how to make people's lives easier and brighter. In general, cinema is not for everyone
