Let's go together. Before our attention is an independent gay drama by Spanish director and screenwriter Antonio Enza. His film turned out to be real and life-affirming. The story is sad and true. The picture is shot realistically in a household atmosphere, everything looks convincing, and the director worked well on this. Among other things, the camera work is gorgeous. The movie looks in one breath, and its history remains in the memory.
The film tells the story of two Cuban boys. They met when they played football together. Both guys have girlfriends, and one even has a child. One works for his father-in-law and performs all his errands, the other is engaged in various earnings, but easy money is given to him only by engaging in male prostitution. Suddenly, sympathy runs between the two guys, and their acquaintance turns into something more. All-consuming passion makes blood boil, and before us a stormy romance of these heroes, who keep it secret from everyone. But very soon the characters can no longer control the consequences of their passionate romance, and events are gaining a dramatic turn.
First of all, the film catches its truthfulness. It was shot frankly and realistically, as if we were not watching a movie, but a window into someone’s real story. I don’t think the characters were both ready for the kind of intense love and passion that suddenly came to them. Both had their lives, their girlfriends, and acquaintances. Their connection mixed all the cards. It often happens that someone loves more. That's what happened in this story. One hero loved another more than he did and was willing to give up everything for him and leave. Another was more realistic and understood that he needed to arrange his life, and just turned up a new acquaintance, which leads him to professional football. This film is very unpredictable, and when you watch it you do not know and you will never guess where the events will lead the viewer.
I remember this movie, it's not bad. Naturally, the picture is for a narrow category of viewers, but it is strong, and may well be called a life drama on gay subjects. The main roles of the guys were played by previously unknown actors Milton Garcia and Rainier Diaz. The second, of course, was more charming and interesting, but Garcia also played great. His character was torn from the inside, and he brilliantly showed the inner state of his character. Without a single note of falsehood, the whole game of the duo of these actors looked clean and convincing.
“The Last Match” is a dramatic film with a taste of melodrama in 2013, which gives a frank and passionate story full of feelings, desires, sweet dreams and unrealistic dreams. This film is about something important, or rather about what is not visible. I appreciate this picture and treat it neutrally. Thank you very much.
