A short film following a young man`s return to rural Newfoundland after tragedy strikes. This short film is not marked by any prestigious prizes of all film festivals.
Moreover, it is little known and is one of the few works of a young Canadian director and screenwriter - Justin Okey.
“The World Is Burning” attracted me with a certain openness, freedom of the subject.
The eternal question: proximity to nature or urban existence? Urban or inviting space.
From a technical point of view, the video is beautiful. The beauty of the picture itself is like looking at these “travelers’ notes” with their naturalism. That is, geolocation (Newfoundland) here does not even act as a place for the development of events, but is a very important part of them. Therefore, conveying the entire panorama of the island, while jumping from minor manipulations in the stuffy city metro - the author makes an accent.
Balancing between the animating (crunch of snow, modest decoration of the house by the river, solitude, silence) and the soulless (metro, girl, dissatisfied with the work of wi-fi) - an attitude is built to both.
Of course, there is a conflict in the plot of this short-lived picture, but I will not say that it is deep and fully revealed.
Uneven and subtle threads of relations between representatives of the two elements. The moment when Brian (the main character) cuts vegetables for cooking, and his girlfriend offers to order food at home. This is something you often encounter in life, so T.W.I.B. leaves room for reflection.
It's a good look at the eternal.
