Rambu - Uninvited Guest So, today our topic is the Indonesian warsplotetsheny, and more specifically, the Indonesian answer “Rambo” is called “Rambu”, which has quite little in common with the original source, but still manages to deliver in some places.
First, let’s deal with the director and cast:
This epic canvas was shot by the director, with a very symbolic name Jopi Burnam, who almost all his career shot exclusively a purely local “insider”, and in addition to this film, notable only for the fact that he shot the picture “Perempuan Bergairah” (Try to quickly say this 3 times), successfully localized by the guys from Troma as “Furious women fighters for freedom”.
But with the cast, the situation is more interesting, because the main role here was played by the “Indonesian Stallone” of New Zealand origin – Peter O’Brien, who noted as the main player in “Angel of Fury” with Cynthia “Invincible” Rothrock and “American Hunter” with Chris Mitchum + starring roles in several Indonesian action films. In general, in this case, O’Brien fit perfectly into the role, because in some shots he is just very similar to Stallone, so much so that other analogues and imitators did not even stand nearby.
That's it, the actors. Let’s move on to the story component.
So here's the mix:
Our GG is Alex Trambuan, a former police officer and now unemployed, witnesses how some thugs knock down an ordinary Indonesian grandmother crossing the road. Despite getting into an accident, the pensioner is still alive, and even is attacked by villains who are not in a hurry to escape from the scene of the incident.
However, our GG stands for the old woman, who with the help of a bat, balls (?), as well as the forces of repeating cadres not only drives out the bandits, but also forces them to pay compensation to the woman.
Next time, our GG intersects with crime already in some strip bar, where the same gangsters hold hostage the daughter of the debtor.
Having released the girl, and at the same time hanging there all healing lulas, GG goes to confer with his wife. The wife, of course, is unhappy with the fact that GG is constantly looking for adventures on his boob, to which he gives an excuse in the spirit of “they find me themselves.”
Ironically, the next day, the "adventures" find GG's wife, rape her and kill her. After that, heartbroken GG puts on a red bandage received from a previously rescued girl, and goes to war with the local mafia, and its leader - Mr. White.
That’s where the first third of the movie ends, and we move on to the music.
It is very average here, and does not particularly cut into memory, although in some moments it sounds very good.
As for the action, things are a little sad here. Almost 3/4 of the film, the entire action consists exclusively of hand-to-hand. And I wish it was well set and mounted, but no, because the local hand-to-hand is more like the fights of drunks under my windows on Friday evening, and with crooked editing. However, at least one interesting scene, albeit not quite hand-to-hand, but still fighting in the film is, namely, when our GG, aki gypsy, dressed in a red shirt, using a baton (or something similar to it), as well as folk Indonesian transport - tricycle, famously knocks down the bandits dissecting on motorcycles.
With the firearm, everything is also very interesting, because in the final our GG will give not only that, but the most that neither is a collapsible uber-punch, with a slight movement of the hand converted from a machine gun into a shotgun, and from it - quite a grenade launcher.
By the way, about grenade launchers: In the film there is one absolutely senile moment when Glavgad clearly holds a grenade launcher (well, or what in theory should be them), but uses it as the most natural machine, and with the appropriate sounds and effects. Whether it was a blunder or simply the complete incompetence of everyone involved in the creation of the film is unknown.
Also, of the minuses, it is worth noting that the local Unexpected turn is very predictable, and the fact that the theme of eroticism in the film is not disclosed. The reason is that Indonesia is a Muslim country. More than 88% of citizens profess Islam, so showing women's charms in movies is prohibited. However, the shadow from them, as well as all sorts of wet bras there, it is quite possible to show what our respected director uses.
Summary:
In fact, this film is an ordinary, very passable, even by the standards of B-Movie action movie, for the domestic market. And the only reason why this film has gained at least some fame outside of Indonesia, and even acquired in some circles a cult status - the title, and the last 30 minutes of the film, which at least somehow, but pull on the warplane. If there was more action with a gunshot in the film, and fewer shots, the only purpose of which is to show what the localities of the Glavgads are - the Glavgads (And there are almost half of them here), an average but strong action movie would come out.
Okay, 6/10. You can watch, but do you need to?
