I still know and will always know what you did last summer. High school student Jenny is a high school star and a model daughter. She doesn't use drugs, doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't smoke, doesn't skip classes, and she's all smart. Once her parents go somewhere on business, leaving her daughter at the disposal of the house for a day, and therefore Jenny's boyfriend persuades the girl to have a little fun, skip classes and hang out with friends. Without thinking twice, the girl agrees, not suspecting that on this day she will be overtaken by retribution for what she did a year ago.
There’s a great movie called I Know What You Did Last Summer, which has several sequels. At one time, this youth thriller made a huge impression on the audience, as it was shot perfectly, and actors with cute faces played their roles on "hurrah". Plus, the creators perfectly created an atmosphere of oppressive fear – a threat hanging over the company of young people who made a mistake and later realized that this mistake will have to pay for. Why am I writing this movie in such detail, you ask? It's very simple. I think a lot of people have seen I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was released in 1997. Now imagine the same scenario, replace it with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Philippe and Freddie Prince Jr. on completely incompetent personalities who found none other than in a drug den, throw out the gloomy atmosphere and add a bunch of nudities - that's when you get "Moat". No more, no less.
The most curious thing here is that the creators do not seem to make a secret of it, because the similarity (or rather, brazen plagiarism ) is visible to the naked eye. Moreover, the authors were so arrogant that they stole the idea not only from the first part of “I know...” but also from the second part of “I know...”! This is how much you need to be confident in order to steal the plots of two films at once without any blink of conscience! No, of course, they could judge that the franchise “I know...” kind of sunk into oblivion, because it has been twenty years, so the younger generation probably do not even know what it is about. But is that an excuse?
The fact that is a second-rate kinzo, it is clear from the first frames, but even in such tapes you can sometimes find albeit not a good performance of actors or the appropriate atmosphere, but at least a tolerable plot that would bring something new to the horror genre. But no, the "Moat" is so not steamed with anything at all that you even wonder - did the creators themselves not notice this?
It seems that in the plot, the viewer must empathize with the main character - Jenny, who is shown as a cute and intelligent girl, although at the very beginning the authors demonstrate how the same girl boozes in black and does not have a special mind. The fact that she is an exemplary student “proves” to us the fact of her diligent attendance at school, but otherwise, what is she considered a smart girl? As soon as her parents leave the house, the girl does not mind to arrange a day off, throwing a party (well, or what is a party in the understanding of the authors of the tape), where come strange-looking high school students. The people in this film are generally some amazing, sometimes behaving simply stupid and illogical. Take, for example, Mrs. Donatucci, who apparently wandered into the horror film of porn by mistake, because her actions cannot be explained in any other way. The only one who has more or less any motivation is the main antagonist, but he turned everything upside down in the final.
I don’t think we should talk about actors in this case – as mentioned above, this bunch of people, if they can be called actors, then only in their fantasies. It is not clear why so much time in the tape was given to nude types of heroes - what, somehow influenced the plot? Was that supposed to say something to the viewer? Discover some truth? Of course, I understand that very often in such low-grade crafts, especially frivolous ladies also “please” the male part of the audience, but almost always this is limited to only a short demonstration of “tits”. Here the viewer will have to observe the senseless walking naked and unsympathetic persons in the negligee for a very, very long time. Particularly infuriated Pandy Swiside, all tattooed, has a very unattractive body, but clearly proud of it. I don’t know, did everyone come from porn?
For this reason, there is not a single character in the film that you can and would like to empathize with. All of them are like one, stupid and degenerate. In I Know What You Did Last Summer, the viewer knew the company had made a mistake, and they were certainly to blame, but because of the disclosure of each character, they were reluctant to give them a chance to live. What is it? How can one pity soulless cardboards, which not only are not opened, but also behave like monkeys on the level of instincts? None of them were necessary for the plot - take them all away and leave only Jenny with her boyfriend, and it wouldn't make the film better or worse (well, the timing just would have decreased). Come on, the victims, but you don't sympathize with the maniac, despite his reasons. Why? Because it is shown superficially, and sometimes even repulsively. So it turns out that when viewing there is only one desire - that the antagonist kills a stupid schoolotta, and then somehow commit suicide, so that a few idiots on the planet became less.
Is this the impression of the movie the creators wanted? I don't know.
And finally, the characters are trying to philosophize on the topic of family, which, frankly, does not interest, since the viewer can fall asleep by the end. Well, those who do not fall asleep, still this will not give anything - for one must still be able to philosophize.

I don't recommend watching.
