The second film by special effects master Joe Castro is dedicated to the mythological monster chupacabra and made as mocumentaries. On the part of Castro, this was quite an original move, because he shot his film 2 years before The Blair Witch, but it was released on video only in 2000, and, of course, has not been translated into Russian. However, for the Russian-speaking viewer this is a small loss, because before us is an obvious semi-amateur hulture, where we are shown funny dummy, and the buff-eyed chupacabra, which will be studied with exaggerated interest by scientists, you will be amused a lot. But for the mocumentary is very important illusion of reality. Think about what Blair Witch would have done if we were shown a lot of junk special effects. Especially you can always do without them, if you have a talent for scary movies.
It is especially worth noting that this amateur garbage was released into the light of God’s company “Troma”. And it is not surprising that Joe Castro did not shoot anything until "Multterror", but then he began to make films very actively, sometimes releasing several a year.
It is especially regrettable that the director shot such low-quality mocumentaries after an interesting debut. The second film is usually considered a serious bid for the future. Fortunately, not all of Castro’s films are as low-brow, and it’s especially worth highlighting the good Jack Hammer. As for the more traditional horror, then the highest achievement of the director slasher “Night in an Abandoned House”. It is not devoid of amateur sweetness, but it is quite possible to watch it, which cannot be said about this work.
