Archaeology and evil. Part 2. We have all witnessed how archaeologists have awakened an ancient evil. Mummies, epidemics... And then there's the curse. More like a curse prophecy. This series is originally called “Dig”, our masterfully translated it as “Excavation”. Which, in general, is fair, because excavation is an excavation, and dig is some kind of digging.
When I bought the title, I started looking.
The creators knew that everyone would want to see a movie about archaeology and played this card in the most appropriate way. For the entire series, the “excavation” itself took two minutes and twenty seconds, in the first series from 40:22 to 42:42. You won’t see more “excavation” in eight episodes. In addition, the creators understood that after archaeology, for the viewer, the most interesting thing is sex, and began directly with it. It's also a big scam.
The main character looks like a desperately stupid De Niro. In addition, among the main characters there are: a skeptical partner (by the way, he will be gay by the middle of the series, but it was already clear from the way he fought), a shrewd elderly man, an unbridled student, a timid pastoralist ... only fourteen people. Oh, yes, more Essenes. For some reason, at the end of the series, one of the characters pointedly looked into the camera and doomedly said under the most intense musical accompaniment: “These were the Essenes.” The screen went out, and I, wiping cold sweat, stayed sitting.
During the first 20 minutes, the main character chases the criminal through Israel, he is shown an ancient sanctuary, he meets a girl who looks like his daughter and climbs into a pond with her. All this happens against the background of the Arab-Israeli conflict, some sectarian atrocities, paintings from the lives of Swiss farmers, in addition, a magical breastplate disappeared from the museum.
Characteristically, it is all presented with such seriousness and filmed with such care that you involuntarily begin to doubt: maybe you are so stupid that you cannot appreciate the importance of what is happening? Maybe it's full of cultural references, hidden meaning and in general - it's a good series? And only dialogue puts everything in its place:
- Sit down!
- Who are you?
The guy who's gonna save your ass.
Imagine a well-dressed, respected person who invited you for a serious conversation. You're sitting across the street and he says, "I'm going to roll up my jacket, and you're going to see if I have a bump on my back, do you think it's not dangerous?"
“Excavation” is an uninteresting series about uninteresting people. You will not learn anything new, ancient treasures look boring, and the running almost always ends with nothing.
One ball for the expedition chief stealing artifacts.
