A beam of light in the dark realm What makes people leave their homeland, say goodbye to their children and not see the sun for six months? After all, this is no longer the Soviet Union, and Grumant is not the island of communism.
The question is not even for what – despite the fact that there are no precious papers, everything is purchased by cards, yet there are earnings. Question: How? How do the guests of harsh Norway survive?
Director Ivan Tverdovsky builds the film on contrast. Visually showing the most difficult human conditions, according to the conversations of the characters, such conditions do not seem terrible at all. Someone even deliberately left modern Moscow for an island with still fresh Soviet imprints. It’s the perfect place to understand yourself. It is so sunny and calm to everyone in the soul that it seems that only one “bitch” is bad, the fate of which is to be drowned. Friendly feasts until late, creative rehearsals, celebration of the whole New Year village. Polar explorers at the end of the world, and they are the happiest ... After all, they watch the true beauty: the northern lights, and know how to enjoy the things and phenomena familiar to us: the dawn.
In addition to ideological content, high-quality camera and sound work. Looking at the storm and listening to its roar, it becomes instantly cold. And underground shooting to disturbing music, like footage from a blockbuster, where the miners are either heroes or zombies. Spending so much time in the “dark kingdom” is a feat. And like-minded people coped with their work at a high level, as professionals should. It is not a shame to show your child at an international competition. Although the technical component, as already noted in other works, do not attach much importance, but alas.
It is no coincidence that the film ends with the anthem of Russia. The complex and dangerous process of coal mining is shown, where the miners are national heroes. The author, as it were, makes it clear that great things are being done on a small land, and these several dozen people are beneficial for the whole country.
The movie Grumant. The island of communism is worth seeing. First, it teaches you to be content with little, to be grateful for what you have. How the islanders sincerely rejoice if the priest visits them at least once a year (!). Second, be happy wherever you are. Despite the fact that people live in darkness for six months, they do not despair. Because the sun lives in them. And such items can accumulate enough. Just turn off your gadgets, leave the virtual world for a while and try a piece of the present - turn on the film by Ivan Tverdovsky.
