I love this show. Simple, family, and even more vital. Even if in a large family that barely makes ends meet, you did not grow up, or do not have one now.
In season 9, the Heck family will be almost home to you. By the way, this is one of the few series that by the end does not fall into the abyss of plot despair, when you are already praying for the finale to all the gods, just to watch and no longer suffer. Yes, the storylines are getting a little weaker, but it does not interfere much with viewing. There is still something to laugh at, at some moments to brush off a tear or seriously think.
I really want to celebrate the series finale. You can clearly see how warmly the creators said goodbye to the audience, a lot of references to previous episodes, even a frame from the screensaver was inserted, completely melting my heart with this. I watched with a sad smile on my face.
Without exaggeration, a great series, without vulgarity, rudeness and stupid jokes. The series is about the life of an ordinary family, about endless family problems, everyday life and a terrible routine. But you know what's most important? Messages and little sub-messages. The series reminds us that happiness is in small things, in mutual help and support of our relatives, that there is a way out of any situation, and you should not give up. And yet, if you add a small amount of humor to your routine, then living this life will become a little more interesting.
With humor about the real emotional torment of parents
I really like this series because it touches on real parenting themes. And even though it's hypertrophied, it's not as absurd as it is in other movies, when you look at it and you think, well, people don't react that way. There are many comedic moments, it looks easy and fun. But at the same time, they affect the really deep feelings of parents: how to raise children, how to be a good parent, how to make friends with a family, how to spend a holiday, how to cheer up the child. And these experiences are shown in such a way that you can believe in them (with a discount that it is a comedy). Very vividly and ridiculously shown internal contradictions and they can be seen in your life.
It’s a rare series that touches on life topics. There is a lot to think about if you are a parent. But it's all comedic.
American sitcom about an ordinary poor family who “tryes hard to stay afloat in the abyss of crazy everyday life”, but which is constantly haunted by failures.
All the gags in the series are based mainly on how one of the family members is unlucky, and we are invited to laugh about it. Among the main characters there is not one who would really make a constant serious effort to get out of the bottom of life.
The head of the family, Mike, tries not to stress himself, drinking beer at home after work. His wife, Frankie, is the only one in the series who wants to change and improve things (but she usually fails, and unfortunately she backs down and gives up). Their eldest son, Axel, is an ordinary loboshaker. The youngest son, Blok, is a well-read and intelligent child, but with obvious deviations (constantly whispering something under his nose). Daughter Sue is an optimist, but ugly stupid, and because of this she is constantly haunted by failure. Yes, we are Hecki losers, well, okay, we won’t do anything, because “it’s not worth it.”
Viewing leaves a pleasant and easy feeling only if the series is successful, as, for example, the final episode in the 1st season, but there are few such. I don’t want to be happy for anyone, and I don’t want to laugh at other people’s problems at all, so I can’t call this series a comedy.

I just recently watched this wonderful series. Few such really good family comedies without stupid behind-the-scenes laughter, vulgarities and stupid humor.
Each episode is a different story. I was touched in one way or another by each episode. After all, it is not so important American or Russian family, we all have the same problems, joys and sorrows, all have strange relatives or neighbors and that’s great! After all, such kind and sincere comedies really unite, giving smiles to all of us.
Of course, for 9 years attached to each character and from that on the one hand it is naturally sad to part with them, but at the same time there is a common understanding that the series ended on a good note, not starting to suck the plots out of the finger, making unnecessary spinoffs or sequel to a new generation of characters.
As is customary in long sitcoms, the last series (or rather combined the last two series) makes you shake and let a tear.
I think the best description is that good is what ends well.
Zero is a golden age for sitcom fans: "The Clinic," "How I Met Your Mother," "The Big Bang Theory" were able to help recover from the closure of the legendary "Friends." And in 2009, another ABC sitcom, The Middle, was released about the life of an average middle-class family in the Midwest. Actually, the name itself conveys the essence of the project, but as usual, localizers did not bother and christened the series “It happens worse.”
So the story introduces us to the Heck family. Little town of Orson, Indiana. Parents Mike and Frances try their best to stay afloat, alternating four jobs and simultaneously raising three completely different children. Axel is a local sports star at Orson’s Scary School and just a narcissistic, unburdened by the hardships of thought processes, a constantly complaining teenager. Sue is the middle child in the family and unlucky but not discouraged and naive optimist. Brick is the youngest, strangest and smartest child with obvious signs of autism.
At first glance, “It Happens Worse” looks like a standard sitcom, but if it were not for caste and skillful script work that touches on important social topics and demonstrates without beauty the real situation of a middle-income family against the background of an unstable economy, without neglecting the human factor, often arising in an unfavorable material environment. The life of Americans with not the greatest earnings perfectly demonstrates the realities of the capitalist way of life, which is usually called stereotypes: fast food dinners, excess credit card limits, purchases on discount coupons and a house remortgaged a couple of times, constantly moaning and falling apart so vividly that it is able to be a character of the show itself:
- What was that terrible sound?
- “This is home, Frankie. He groans because he is tired, as are those who live in him.
And all situations are played in the most original comedy key. As they say, laughter through tears. In this case, it's just laughter. And the caste strongly helps to maintain the degree of "Ha-ha-meter" at the very height. Atticus Schaffer, the only one left in the lineup from a failed pilot episode, proves to be the brightest comedy character of this sitcom. His autistic Brick was extremely colorful. Eden Sher and Charlie McDermott in the roles of Sue and Axel came out no less bright. You won’t soon forget Sue’s trademark mad look and Axel’s emtivistic sloppyness in the spirit of Beavis and Bathhead. And complete the picture, the unforgettable “Clinic” Neil Flynn and two-time Emmy winner Patricia Heaton. Their images of parents are perfect and believable. Secondary caste is also on top - "It happens worse" is a rare example of sitcoms with strong supporting characters and this fact only adds points to the project: whether it is a high schooler, a latent gay man who himself does not know about his orientation, stupid football friends, Glossner's neighbors - a natural white scum led by Brooke Shields, a loser-colleague Bob, an old-school sexist boss, a reverendant musician and many others.
The script work of the project in each episode touches on different topics and the originality of the approach to a particular important situation is impressive, evoking the idea that the team of writers does not sleep at night. From about the third or fourth episode of the first season, it is impossible to break away from the series: the charm of the characters and the cheerful dynamics simply will not allow you to pause. And, in addition to all the above advantages, this multi-part comedy masterpiece is literally saturated with positivity and humanity, leaving after watching only the brightest and warmest emotions plus as a bonus, now we know where the colorful Cleaner from the Clinic disappeared. Obviously, everything is not so bad in his life.
... All American families look alike. They are happy smiling people who gather at the big dining table for dinner every night, where they share the news, laugh and chat incessantly. American children grow up to be real leaders, so their parents take the upbringing of children very seriously. But not Heki! They eat only fast food, and homemade food is perceived as punishment - because the mother of the family Frankie cooks terribly. Father – Mike does not like to show emotions, so to solve the problems of teenage children, as well as the younger boy with “oddities” can not. And in general, more emotions he causes sports broadcasts on TV. Block (Brick) is the boy with the “strangeness”, in my opinion, the most interesting character in the series. He constantly whispers different words under his nose, does not break away from reading books, even in stressful situations, it is by reading that he calms the nerves. Thanks to his incessant reading, he is not smart by the weather, but he is completely unsocialized. The oldest, Axel, considers himself a handsome and cool dude, so allows himself to be rude to his parents, ignore them, and blame all failures. And of course, Sue, as emotional as Frankie, but this is where her successes can be closed. It is not taken in any circle, as except as a huge desire it can not boast.
The Hecks aren't perfect, but they're family. In crisis situations, they pull the best out of their hearts and help each other. Important events of each family member they spend together. And it's hard to look at them and not find similar traits in yourself.
You can turn on the episode "Sometimes Worse", being in a terrible mood, and on the credits it is stupid to smile and believe in the best. I really love the music at the end of each episode.
P. S.: Over the course of 8 seasons, the series develops, of course, the plot transforms, but does not lose its charm.
Watching “It’s Worse” is not a waste of time. He is fascinating, vital and humorous. He's also very kind. That makes it look easy. At the same time, it cannot be called banal. It's for people of all ages. Personally, I am very excited about each season.
Separately, I want to say about the acting: just shine. It's so realistic that you always think it's a real family. Everyone has their own unique and interesting image.
Neil Flynn, who plays Mike, has completely reincarnated from the familiar role of the Cleaner from the series The Clinic. This shows that he is not “hostage to one image” (as very often happens with the heroes of very popular TV shows).
Patricia Hilton (Frances) is probably one of the most natural “moms” I’ve ever seen in movies/series.
The appearance of any family member in the frame causes only positive emotions. Each series is unrealistically uplifting!
This review prompted me to write another conversation with a friend to whom I mentioned about the series “It happens worse”, and he said that he had never heard of it. This series deserves attention, perhaps even more than many famous sitcoms that everyone has heard.
Most of us have watched many American films, including comedies. We all know three types of teenagers from those films, which often show school hallways and lockers: handsome athlete, star of the football team; girl-award, not beautiful and not very popular, but not discouraged because of it; strange child, out of this world, withdrawn, with a bunch of bolts, but at the same time at least beyond his years smart or even genius. Introduced three types? Now imagine that all three are in the same family. And even their parents are a couple consisting of a former cheerleader, a prom queen and a tall athlete. It’s just that all the characters we know from American films are gathered under one roof, and they are all family.
No matter what you say, it’s a family of people who love each other. Yes, Frankie feeds her kids fast food, yes, Mike doesn't know how to express his feelings, yes, they all stare at TV all the time, not go to museums and theaters. Yes, humor can sometimes be “cruel” for the Russian viewer, but there is no such thing as, for example, through the series “Married and with children”. Everything is not hopeless at all, each series leaves behind bright feelings, in the finale of each one an important conclusion is summed up, even, I will not be afraid of this word, morality. These parents truly love their children and the children love their parents. Two brothers and sisters constantly quarrel, but they, in case of what, stand for each other a mountain. We are shown how carelessly Frankie and Mike treat their children: forgetting to sign grade sheets, always late somewhere, not picking up on time from school, but it all becomes trivial when you see Frankie sleeping with Sue on the street in line for a ticket to a concert. How Mike is willing to give up an important competition to take Block to meet his favorite writer. How Frankie is torn between Sue's crosses and Axl's final match. Like Mike cares about Sue when his girlfriends plot behind her back, like he cheers for Block in a spelling contest. In fact, they do more for their children, much more than those who lead a perfect life, prepare full meals, but have no idea what is on the soul of a daughter or son. Frankie keeps saying, "We're lazy parents," but that's not true. They are great parents who raise good people. As a social worker told them, "You've decorated my week and my month." And they make me smile every day.

The title carries the whole meaning of the series, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a slogan, it’s something that helps us to stay on our feet in difficult situations, because “It gets worse!”
The whole series is built on optimism, because the main characters - the Heck family, sometimes everything is very bad and life seems so bad, but the conclusions of Frank's mother and the behavior of all family members remind us that it can be really worse and not so bad for them. They're family. The main idea of the project. You can hate each other, you can mock and laugh at each other, you can hurt your sister and your little brother, every time you forget something important that the kids asked you to do, but they’re a big deal for each other, they support every member of their family. Everyone takes turns in different situations to show their best qualities or do what they do not want, but for the sake of loved ones it is necessary. How many times will you see a restrained, unsociable Mike break his own stereotypes for the sake of his wife and children? Frankie, concerned about what kind of mother she is, unable to plan her day, completely immersed in business, repeatedly admits herself guilty, despite the fact that she wants her children to be independent, that they sometimes hurt her very much, but she-mama and the very first one always flies to the rescue! No wonder she is shown in the first series in a superman costume. Eldest son Axel seems a complete loboshake and rude young man, but he will break this stereotype more than once throughout the series. Sue's daughter should be singled out separately. She is an endless stream of optimism, perseverance, kindness, impenetrableness and unbrokenness. Of course, somewhere the situation with her character exaggerated, but it is her characteristic features that we so often lack in life. She wants to do a lot of things, but she can’t do anything. Her problem is everything, but she always sees the other side of it, every time you are amazed... you think that it will break her, but no! She's steadfastly moving on. This is so much like the life of really unlucky people, when in order to achieve at least a tiny goal, which ordinary people by the will of fate goes into their hands, they have to turn mountains, so if not such willpower and optimism, then you can definitely hang yourself from such injustice. Block is a strange child who is comfortable being alone. He has a very narrow circle of friends, because he sees no sense in courtesy of those who are not interested in him. This approach to life takes place. His best friends are books. He reads all the literature with his head. Who knows, maybe a great writer or literary critic will grow out of him, because his advantage is a large baggage of knowledge of language, literature and while studying in junior grades he writes essays to his older brother. The block is so weird and kind of different, but then you realize that in truth, it looks like its parents, it just has its own characteristics.
The Russian viewer sees the way of life of the American average family, that is, we get acquainted with their way of life, cultural features and traditions. Many things are foreign and incomprehensible to us, for example, eating such food, having a dishwasher, albeit a bad one, for our poor families is a luxury, a struggle in school for popularity and tables in the dining room, etc. But we have an opportunity to get to know it. And yet, what culture would you not relate to people are connected by common problems.
Of course, we, as viewers, see not only the right actions, but also extract valuable advice from the experience of even a serial family.
This series is good for lifting the mood and spirit in general. "It's Worse" is a great collection of family life with its problems, injustice and complexity, heroes and their resilience. For me, he found a way into our family, other average families, in which they decide to buy themselves boots for the winter or a jacket for a child, because there is no money, in which there is a problem with buying a new sofa, with a change of work that you tolerate in order to have something to buy bread, where there are people who do not have bright abilities, to whom fate cost more, and they still do not lose optimism and continue to live, find an opportunity to buy the doll that their daughter dreamed of. The series shows that you need to appreciate your loved ones, because this is all we have, the family will accept you and will love, protect and support. And most importantly, if you want to change something in your life, you need to move forward towards your goal. And no matter how bad your business is, remember that “it gets worse!”

The first series seemed quite passable - well, they say, fishless will suit, since the series that I usually watch are over.
This is not the series that catches on from the first frames, but it is only a little closer to get acquainted with the characters, as you begin to get involved - and now at the same time with the mother of the family shout ' I'm a bad mother!' and you wait for tricks from the restless Axl, and you worry about the awkward Sue.' Chemistry' The series manifests gradually, when you quietly join this average American family.
The creators managed to build the series so that it does not bother, despite the fact that many situations are repeated again and again - the youngest son throws things away, the daughter is constantly trying to get into the team, the eldest son almost does not pay time to study, and the restless mother is trying to make some changes in her family, improve something and make it so that it was '. It would seem that it should get tired quickly - but no! Each time the writers manage to turn the situation around in a new way, to concentrate on the other side of the problem, which was invisible last time.
And yet - very glad that the series is almost no vulgarity, no jokes ' below the belt' and no swearing.
- I'd like to stay home and watch TV. And I want you to make me some soup. - Oh, honey, you got the wrong family.
This series with humor and good irony shows the life of the average American family. There is a father, Mike Heck, moderately strict, moderately quirky. There is a mother, Frankie, who cares about her children while trying to build some semblance of a career. And there are three children: teenage jackass Axel, complex loser Sue and weird reading lover Brick. They quarrel and make up, play and play sports, cook food and watch TV together. Just like everyone else.
To follow the twists of their fates is very exciting. You never know what kind of watermelon a child is going to roll out, what Frankie's boss is going to think, or what Mike's subordinates are going to come up with. Each plot twist is served naturally, as it happens in life; some days are calmer, and some are literally knocked down.
The character of each hero is written out carefully and logically, a little grotesque and at the same time not overdoing it. All the characters look quite realistic (although the actress who plays Sue still overplays), their lines are appropriate, the reactions are natural. Anyway, it's nice to watch. It is clear that the authors of the series tried their best, thinking through the nuances of the behavior of the characters. But the coolest thing there is still Brick - you can watch the series only to enjoy how this cute kid repeats the last words in sentences in a whisper.
The series is perfect to brighten up a boring evening.
Such a realistic series has not been on the screen for a long time. No way!
Although I am not an American, this is how I imagine their lives and once again prove to myself that America can never become a home for the Slavs!
It's interesting to watch. After the series 'Married with Children' this is the second masterpiece.
I realized that the average American eats purely fast food, mothers, having even three children categorically refuse to cook real food, but this suits everyone, the crazy education system does not give a single ounce of knowledge, but parents take an active part in all sorts of activities in my concept rather stupid and unnecessary. Shows the system of social protection of children, reaching the point of absurdity – it has long been known.
But. Despite all the nuances, the series I want to watch, series after series, in a cliff.
And perhaps even to get into such a family by exchange would not hurt everyone.
Note the following, the series took 6th place in the rating of series 2009-2010 and received a high opinion of eminent critics.
