Fighting for Life on Ruthless Rails Suicide is the difficult stage at which the victim needs a person who can give the necessary motivation to live. Not everyone understands what that motivation might be. Sometimes it is enough to convince the victim of any unimaginable delusion of healing; sometimes to enter into his trouble as if into water; and still more sometimes to kick at the "show", or, more specifically, to laugh at his determination in his face. “The Road” proves that all three types of motivation, used after each other – the best way to save a suicide.
Nikolai (or, as it is written on Kinopoisk, Veleslav) Ustinov does not stand still, looking back at his own failures. No matter how “hat” the debut “Papa” may seem, the Novosibirsk director managed to rehabilitate himself with the help of a black and white parable, in which he himself played a major role.
Despite the fact that the plot is largely predictable, The Road seems very curious, minimalistic and even, I dare say, wise art house. The conversation between the two men who stayed on the rails is not new: it lays out the truths of the capital, but let us not forget that even the Bible does not shine with innovative originality. I liked the way the short was shot, the manner in which her style was maintained, the delicate approach with which both roles were performed. Moreover, the culmination in this work, without looking at all its simplicity, still causes a certain tension, thereby helping to achieve the desired emotional state in the final.
"The Road" is one of those stories after which you may not want to live against everything, but you at least understand or feel the difference between the possibility of a future in this world and disappearing into the absolute darkness of nothingness on that.
