Build your love If you fantasize a hypothetical duel of two comedy silent movie icons, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, then, for nothing, that each height of sixty-five and a million films per career, they will be in several different weight categories. Both are good, but Chaplin is more loved, more successful, about him, in the end, a biopic with Downey Jr. was shot. And yet Keaton was also a nice guy, and his films were comfortable: 75 minutes maximum, and ready. “One week” 1920, and generally short meter. But just one of those that is more voluminous than two full-length films, of those about which there is no shame and cross a couple of lines, shaking the old days in the matter of amateur and unassuming film reviewing.
So, one week. Seven days. Exactly seven to varying degrees known films and seven images of a comedian-trick with an impenetrable face, with which the writer of these lines is already familiar. The foundation is laid, start building!
Monday. Keaton in the role of the nameless groom is married and not without car-stunt adventures gets with his wife to the construction site, where they are waiting for a prefabricated house and a week of wild adventures. Johnny Gray of the famous “Steamboat General” also respected fast driving, falling out of full-speed transport and other signature stunts directed and performed by Buster Keaton.
On Tuesday, our heroes began to build their homes. "Johnny's doing the editing," and the house is ready. But something is wrong with it, and only Sherlock Jr. from the film of the same name could help here.
What sacrifices did not go hero Keaton by name? Buster in "Cinema Operator" to win the heart of the chosen one. But sometimes the script favors, and you no longer need to care. On Wednesday, the Groom and Bride set up their oblique house, performing a couple of tricks and having fun with a piano installation episode. Favourable material for hunting for interesting shots of a person with a camera!
Thursday. The final touches: bed the halves, attach the stove pipe. The girl hilariously opens kefir, after which she will need a bath, and there the viewer will find a scene akin to a shot into the camera lens in the “Big Train Robbery”. The misadventures of the newlyweds resemble another film - "Navigator". Rollo Treadway and his companion inevitably travel by sea alone in a large ship and they have to adapt. Marriage is also a great journey.
In another Keaton’s nettleneck, The Steamboat Bill, William Canfield Jr. in the last quarter of his adventures finds himself in the epicenter of bad weather: it pours like a bucket and the wind is powerful and severe. Friday, the thirteenth, gave celebrating housewarming spouses and their unlucky guests such a surprise in the form of a hurricane: an unstable house and its inhabitants spin around its axis. The party failed. But someday the rain will stop and a new day will come.
Saturday’s misadventures of the heroes of “One Week” with the worries of James Shannon from “Seven Chances” are united by the ingenuity inherent in Keaton’s heroes and the ability to get out of any trouble. Are the newcomers wrong and need to move? No problem! Buster will always come up with something.
Risk to life is a characteristic attribute of Keaton's comedies. Self-executed tricks, bold and funny decisions. In the black comedy “Our Hospitality” poor Willie Mackey’s relatives wanted to kill her in all possible ways, but it did not work. Buster has no bad endings, except for minor happy endings. Our Bridegroom didn't get a dowry in the form of his wife's evil relatives, but the trains, especially the generals, are always somewhere nearby. And now we have to find another place to build love.
Yes, Charlie Chaplin’s kung fu is stronger, but every movie star is a small world, and hopefully you’ll want to learn more about the world of the impenetrable-faced comedian who lived and worked to make fun and amaze.
