A closed circle Los Angeles, these days. Alex lives in a nice mansion. He is a programmer, creator and co-owner of a popular dating site. Money isn't a big deal, but Alex is unhappy. Although he is willingly given by women, no one loves him or understands him. Which, of course, is the fault of his bastard parents. Disliked... And there is also an ambiguous gift of fate - his older sister Valerie was abandoned by her husband and while she moves to her brother along with her sixteen-year-old daughter Laura. Valerie is a therapist, and she blames her parents for her troubles. Alex seems happy, but his family quickly draws him into their unpleasant problems with even less pleasant consequences. And on the horizon already looming and nightmare mom and dad ...
It seems that in the world of TV came fashion for unbalanced stories about the difficult personal life of mere mortals. The syrupyness is zero, everything is quite sad, although it does not reach the level of ancient Greek tragedy. Unhappy people try to become happy, stumbling at every step and ruining everything they create. Humor is frankly small, and it is clearly not an end in itself. But the types are quite vital, and not bad played. Special skeletons do not fall out of the cabinets, but the happy ending is not even close to visible. How can you be happy if you don’t know what you want?
I can’t call the series a masterpiece, but it’s not bad. First of all, its credibility. Yes, and not stupid observations “for life” screenwriters enough. What is the short scene of Valerie’s conversation with her ex-husband, from which we quickly understand why he left her? And she doesn't understand, albeit a trained psychologist with solid practice. And it's really fun to see her sessions with clients. An aunt who is not able, not only to deal with her problems, but even to understand what they are, quickly and decisively copes with the problems of patients. It’s just like real life too!
Verdict for the first season: to view not necessarily, but quite lookable. The complete absence of sortier-genital humor adds at least one point.
