I love movies about revenge in the name of justice. A man avenging the death of his family, a policeman who went in search of the killers of his partner, a former military man who went to a hot spot to return a debt to terrorists. Yes, maybe the plot in all these tapes does not shine with variety, but, with the proper approach to the work of the film crew, such pictures pamper the viewer with dynamics, tense atmosphere, action, the victory of good over evil. It is pleasant, having left for an hour and a half from reality, to plunge into the world where justice triumphs, where there is "one in the field of a warrior." Something similar to expect from the British novelty 2016 “Kill Kane”. But...
Frankly speaking, the film is completely and completely disappointing. Yes, at first glance it seems that there is nothing easier than to make a film on the already worked out repeatedly templates, but as it turns out, this is far from the case. After all, in the hands of different producers, writers, directors, the same story can play in completely different colors. Someone will be able to make the viewer immerse themselves in the action, empathize with the main character, sincerely feel sorry for his family, rejoice in reprisals against criminals, enjoy shootings, surveillance, chases, and someone will get something that will be deprived of all this. That’s the second way of development and went the creators of “Kill Kane”.
Vinnie Jones is one of those few actors who appeared in the film even for 5 minutes, is able to outshine all the other actors together with his charisma and specific charm. But in this film, he frankly failed to cope with the duties assigned to him. Should we blame Vinnie? Of course not. I’m sure the audience of the film would be 90 percent less, if it did not appear in the credits. In fact, only the presence in the frame of Vinnie Jones is the only thing that at least somehow can keep the audience at the screens, because more in the film to look at absolutely nothing.
Have the authors managed to imbue the audience with compassion for the hero and his grief? Nope. Did you enjoy the exciting scenes of fights and chases? Not either. Do you expect to see the protagonist transform from an ordinary teacher into a ruthless arbiter of justice? I have to disappoint you, the creators did not have time for this. Well, at least his reprisals against villains are well staged and awaken any emotions? No, no and no again. There is nothing like that in the movie. Sometimes you can even forget that you are watching a thriller, and not a melodrama or a sitcom about life in the suburbs. Everything develops sluggishly, boringly, “pampering” the viewer with a huge number of primitive dialogues and a complete lack of emotions among the actors.
Jones’s attempts to portray anger, despair, rage, and sobbing, unfortunately, brought only a smile. Maybe he (like me) expected that the film will still stand on the rails of an action movie, and will add over time in energy, drive and therefore did not put in scenes of massacre of the family of his character, saving energy for scenes of another kind? But the action, as well as the necessary tense atmosphere, the film is completely devoid of. Yes, there are not a few murder episodes in the film, but they are shown so poorly and superficially that they are not only unable to bring out of the state of apathy into which the rest of the action plunges, but also causes a feeling of deep disappointment. It seems that you were simply deceived, slipping, under the guise of a dramatic thriller, a melodrama about the everyday life of a widower.
It is hard to say who would like such an empty act? Fans of high-quality action films and thrillers can safely ignore this movie, however, and fans of the work of Winnie Jones, too, because in this picture the actor was not allowed to show a tenth of his abilities.
