Scandinavian farce: Family showdowns on the ice Three years ago, Norwegian filmmakers showed the world their interpretation of the popular racing theme, dipping it into the Scandinavian realities close to them. Apparently, the graters of brutal mechanics were so to the liking of the home audience, for whom the movie was shot in the first place, that this work of art to press the pedal to the point was able to knock out the consent of the producers to shoot the sequel. The sequel, in which for some reason there is no further development of events that was in the original tape, instead of which the creators are persistently trying to sniff out exactly the same story with the same “severe” Scandinavian mechanics in the lead roles, who again did not share something and went on a long journey, the purpose of which is to find out who really is here Batko. Well, right, again some bald dick that appeared out of nowhere, flies into the garage of the main character who left the racing life, fucks out in front of the latter and his entourage, saying “you are so boring, and let’s get away to Murmansk”, because to the North Cape we skated in the first part, and Roy, like he decided to leave such adventures for young tomboys, is not able to cope with his crazy daughter, scores with another bald child and, as in the old days, goes unruly with his mother.
The plot of the new tape brazenly parasites on its predecessor, while bringing absolutely nothing new. Even if any originality is completely absent, and the constant feeling of deja vu makes you say goodbye to hopes for the slightest plot twist. The spirit of rivalry, which was impregnated with the first film, simply evaporated, because the main character does not even participate in the race - he would snatch a half-witted daughter from the clutches of an obstinate boyfriend, but from the same mother as soon as possible to get rid of, tied up with him in this difficult business. At the race itself, attention is not particularly concentrated, giving the viewer some ridiculous family drama with two parents-sloops and a nearby fallen apple-daughter. In principle, in the original, attention was paid to the line of father and daughter, but there somehow it was done correctly, not in reproach to the main narrative – in the sequel, family quarrels reached the apogee of meaninglessness and irrelevance even in the form of a comedy, in which there is simply nothing to laugh at. In this mess of absurdity and stupid self-repetition, one can distinguish only the increased budget, which allowed transplanting another bald dick on an extra-class car, which is interesting to watch in such difficult weather conditions, as well as a shooting worthy of Scandinavian colleagues, which lost the dynamics of the first film, but still has a couple of entertaining decisions, and there is nothing to present purely from the technical side of Racing on Ice.
But the fact is that you can look at cool cars in the “Grand Tour” or at the worst end on YouTube, and there they will be shown from all sorts of angles, and tell about them so that mom does not grieve! The film of Hallward Brahein is a vivid example of a sequel for the sake of a sequel, which was shot not because there were some interesting ideas or collections of the first film predisposed to it, but because it was necessary to shoot it to just it was. All this may seem like complete nonsense, but do not worry – it is! I would sincerely like to understand why the second Scandinavian afterburner was born, but I cannot do that. Continue the story? Nope! It was bluntly repeated, changing the main stimulus and destination, but the basic concept remained intact. Character development? Not again! Roy was a stupid mechanic who only knew how to turn a lamb, so he remained. Show an even cooler family drama? Not again! It’s as if there wasn’t a nice father-daughter reconciliation in the first movie – again, there’s a chasm between them that they’re digging together. Could the race be better in winter? Not again! Despite the ice crust on the road and more expensive cars, a more exciting spectacle failed, because the race went by the wayside, leaving the viewer one-on-one with the ridiculous embodiment of the story of a difficult teenager. In general, it was not possible to enter the same river twice again, this time the Scandinavian afterburner.
