There was a time when Rennie Harlin held the position of one of the most popular and quite talented directors. Giving the world such excellent films as the sequel to “Die Hard”, “Climb climber” and a number of other paintings. However, after the resounding failure of the “Island of Thugs”, his career quickly came to naught and, unfortunately, he did not remove anything worthwhile after that. No exception to "Gentleman robbery."
The plot of this film revolves around one of the most famous thieves in the world, Richard Pace, who after a daring escape from prison makes a deal with the “Rogue Team”, who rob the rich and give money to the poor. Together, they target the largest gold bar depository in the world, the owner of which – Warner Scholz – launders money from international criminals, and is also a longtime enemy of Pace.
One of the writers of this film was Kurt Wimmer, who can definitely be called one of the truly creative and talented authors of modern cinema, whose career unfortunately “did not take off.” As evidence – a lot of unrealized scripts under his authorship, which can be safely found on the Internet. However, unfortunately, the involvement of this author in writing the script did not save this film.
The script of this tape was clearly written with an eye on “Ocean’s Eleven” by Stephen Soderbergh and “Ghost Six” by Michael Bay, in fact a hybrid of the main ideas of which this film represents. In general, the story turned out to be quite tolerable and its intrigue associated with the robbery is quite watchable. I spoil the impression only with extremely scanty and, in my opinion, frankly unnecessary humor, as well as excessively caricatured characters, who I absolutely do not want to perceive as living people. Where are you going to be?
The similarity of this tape with Michael Bay’s “Ghost Six” is limited not only by the script, but also by the direction. Almost throughout the viewing, the thought never left that Harlin is trying to recreate the style of Bay’s painting. However, if Bay has long sharpened his skil to create a very juicy and clip picture, then in the case of Harlin’s work, the picture seems frankly empty and secondary. It’s like a B-category movie that’s partly salvaged by Trevor Rabin’s brilliant soundtrack. Not just because it's the first lull in years. Rabin in the composer's plan. But also thanks to the fact that Rabin created a very dynamic and spectacular soundtrack sample of his “Gone in 60 seconds”. However, this is not enough to pull the picture of this tape.
Pir Brosnan is definitely a very talented and insanely charismatic guy who can pull any role. Here and then he got quite a cartoon character, in which he easily breathed a breath of life. The same can be said about Tim Roth. However, at this point, acting definitely ceases to surprise. Nick Cannon, Rami Jaber and other actors overtly overplayed and overly crooked throughout screen time. Unless Jamie Jeong played well. However, the impression of her performance is blurred by how cardboard and stupid her character turned out in the script.

Gentleman’s Robbery is another passing and weak film in the work of the once successful, and now “written off in circulation” director Rennie Harlin. The script of this tape was written with an obvious look at Ocean's Eleven" by Stephen Soderbergh and "Ghost Six" by Michael Bay, Harlin the whole film tries to recreate the directorial style of Bay from the above tape, and the actors frankly replay in extremely cardboard and boring images.
Prison is a business, and a convenient place to hide something.
Whether it’s Pierce Brosnan, whom I adore in other roles more than in the role of Bond, or it’s about cool cars, which I adore no less, or in the landscapes of the UAE, which I crave to see live, but the film is very pleasant on ' shorten the evening'.
The team of modern Robin Hood robs the rich and transfers money to the poor. But in order to rob terrorists in the most secure prison in the entire Middle East and in fact on their own territory, they clearly have little experience and skills. A swindler, bomber, assassin and an Arab “prince” are looking for a true pro. But this professional (Brosnan) is sitting behind bars and not too eager to get involved in an adventure. True, it seems that in the team of robbers there is a dark horse that will make him change his mind.
Which I liked. A movie with a cunning scheme that the viewer will understand only at the end, yes, you can guess, but it would not be at all interesting to watch. The phenomenal credulity of the prison guards amuses no less than the chic acting performance of one of the heroes. Car racing in the desert, modern architecture, jokes and adrenaline.
If you are waiting for something outstanding, do not wait, because you will be disappointed.

Robin Hood's philosophy doesn't work in modern cinema
There is such a genre in world cinema, it is called the “final film”. So the whole movie goes blah, blah, blah, and it's only at the end of the movie that something interesting happens. So this picture belongs to this genre. The whole movie is about some kind of nobility. It is like robbing the rich and giving money to the needy. Robin Hood's philosophy doesn't work in modern cinema. The modern consumer society rejects crime as the essence of something normal. Therefore, director Rennie Harlin made a failed picture in advance. The film is very boring and not dynamic. They used to rob banks, vaults, safes, now they rob Islamic terrorists. This is absurd. Modern consumer society denies the very fact of aggression, crime.
Writers Henny and Wimmer wrote a very boring story. Where there is Islamophobia and enthusiasm for the wealth of the Middle East. Actor Pierce Brosnan is clearly in a difficult financial position to star in such a boring film. This ending film says, “The Middle East should be plundered and given money to the West, people better off.” The movie is very boring. Pierce Brosnan, although a polished actor, but his role is very boring and bland. All the characters in the script are very boring. I really liked Scholz (he is voiced by Carpet).
The Middle East is rich, and so American screenwriters invented the fact that “All the rich in the East are terrorists and bad guys.” The film features open Islamophobia and a script to belittle the Islamic rich.
I didn't like the movie. The theme of “robbing the rich” in today’s consumer society has faded. I define the genre of this film as a criminal adventure. The film is not dynamic, and the actor Brosnan completely passed.
Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. That's what impressed me.
Despite the fact that it was impossible bad, you can find pluses. Before watching this movie, I was sure Furious 9 deserved 1-2 stars, but it turned out not. Compared to the Gentleman's Robbery, the Furious looks like Shakespeare's creation.
1. What was terrible:
Honestly, I have never seen such a collection of stupid stereotypes and clichés.
I could predict how almost every scene would end, so terrible was the script.
The supporting characters are a cheerful black guy, an Asian fighter and an Asian who tried to behave like Jackie Chan.
A narcissistic and stupid protagonist. When one of the heroines looks at a slurred old man and says something like this ' Despite the fact that you are wildly sexy, I do not prefer men', a friend and I burned into the voice, so it was ridiculous and stupid.
2. What was good: It's nothing, it's nothing. In addition to timing, fortunately, this torment lasted only 1.5 hours. We decided on principle to look.
There is such a hot Finnish guy and director – Rennie Harlin. He is known for two very good films – the second part of “Die Hard” and “Climb climber”, a bunch of mediocre films, as well as frankly weak films. And this is his "Robbery by ..." refers, alas, just to the last category. This movie is just incredibly bad. Essentially, Rennie rolled out 100% of the crap. True, even in the barrel of this first-rate humus still had a few spoons of a more pleasant substance.
So the good stuff first. It's here, oddly enough. First, Pierce Brosnan. Former 007. He knows how to play and against the background of almost the rest of the gang of half-actors a la Furious looks a real gentleman against the background of a gang of barefoots. And although this former agent saves a lot, even the whole world can not hide the essence of the movies. And that's a sloppy mess. Brazen and stupid. And then there's Tim Roth, who plays the main villain. He also knows how to play, but the arbitrariness of the director did not allow him to prove himself worthy.
There will also be beautiful views of the desert, camels, skyscrapers, sports cars, etc.
And finally, in this under-picture, there are references to the classic good old French and Italian films about big robberies - "Superbrain" (with Belmondo) and "The Biggest jackpot". There will be a reference to another classic – let’s remember the Maltese Falcon with H. Bogart. Those were all great movies. But in fact, the work of Rennie Harlin was closest to other films – the Russian “Billion” (with V. Mashkov) and “Escape Plan-2/3”. This is not praise at all.
Everything else is definitely bad, too. Young actors are types. Cool Latino, cool cute blonde, cool feminist girl Chinese. And the leader of this gang. I don't think they'd actually be able to run a bank. They would fall asleep immediately.
And the saddest thing here is that Rennie spits on the cultural peculiarities of the Arabs, making his story in a bad way implausible. And just an all-out giveaway game. When our heroes are confronted only by patented idiots and beasts. (the character of T. Roth at first inspired hope, but closer to the end he seemed to have his brain turned off)
It turned out to be an extremely weak and insignificant kind of action movie about such a cool robbery. It's basically a puff. Another nail in Rennie Harlin's career.
This week can easily be called scant for new products. My choice fell on a curious work Renny Harlin. A good cast, a good track record of one of the writers, a bright poster ... all this together did not foreshadow trouble, a stone fell on my unhappy head.
Richard Pace is a professional fraudster who recently escaped from prison. Soon he finds 'Team of outcasts', whose members are engaged in noble but illegal activities. The criminals offer Pace to participate in the daring robbery of the vault, which is owned by Warner Schultz - a bandit who supports terrorists. . .
It doesn’t take long before any sane person realizes that the wretchedness of the plot knows no bounds. At the very beginning, several characters are shown, which are told in literally two words. Then they do not try to reveal, as if they are some inanimate dummies, and not participants in a risky operation. Because of this, it is impossible to believe that they are partners, and not individual strange personalities, which, sorry, ' recruited by ad '. The reason why Richard Pace becomes the leader of the gang, the authors decide not to explain. The viewer is supposed to know only that he is really needed. Discussion and drawing up a plan flows into boring chatter, which periodically tries to dilute the story with dull jokes. The mission itself goes without a hitch, without a hitch. It is even ridiculous: in one of the most impregnable and well-known correctional institutions there is no normal guard, and the head of the prison is a complete idiot. The main characters quietly walk around the building, as if they are on a tour. Therefore, do not be surprised that watching a movie soon becomes uninteresting: the final picture is guessed by the middle.
Atmosphere. A good camera job, a single ridiculous chase and endless empty talk - that's all that the tape can offer you. The explosions will be as much as 2 pieces, but they are so disgusting in quality that it is better not to even remember. Acting is something with something: Jamie Chun (Violet) trades a stone face, Nick Cannon (Ringo) the whole film shows the crooked and stupid squirms, and the actor who plays the prison chief, arranges an endless clown. Pierse Brosnan and Tim Roth, what do you forget about the circus? '.
Music. The musical selection in quality is below the average level: something there buckles against the background of useless dialogues and unjolly rides. It seems that the authors of the tape chose tracks at random.
Result. If you have an idea of what a quality action movie is, it is not worth spending time on this mess. The creators of the tape themselves acted as skillful pickpockets: they climbed into my wallet and pulled out money, in return slipping a pathetic fake. However, I admit that I myself came to visit them and allowed myself to be robbed. Don't repeat my mistake.

(27%), I would not be surprised at the failure of the box office.
On the poster for this film, you can see an extremely tempting inscription: “from the writer of Law-abiding Citizen and Thomas Crown’s Scam and the director of Die Hard 2 and Mind Hunters.” It sounds good, because each of these films is interesting and good. But! All of them came out more than ten years ago, and Die Hard 2 and all three decades! And this suggests that both director Rennie Harlin and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer can only be proud of what they did a long time ago. To date, they have nothing to boast about. Although the same Wimmer has “Equilibrium” – one of the few directorial projects of his, and Harlin shot cool films “Climb climber”, “Deep Blue Sea”, “Long kiss for the night” (this is in addition to those already indicated above).
“Gentleman Robbery” is a rather mediocre film, which in its script content is significantly inferior to many high-quality pictures about robberies. The "rogue team" targeted Mr. Schultz (Tim Roth) and his gold reserves hidden in a vault under one of the prisons in the East owned by Schultz. To help themselves, these guys take Pace (Pierce Brosnan) - a master of deception and robbery. In general, this is the whole set, then the “spectacle” begins.
About how professional this movie turned out, you can judge by computer graphics with an explosion that flashed at the very beginning, when the viewer is introduced to the heroine Dejmi Chun. But if its quality can be attributed to a lack of budget, then there are many questions under the scenario.
The plot of the picture is permeated with banalism and simplicity and here the main characters - those very "Rogues" everything turns out so simple that in comparison with them the most sophisticated movie robbers are amateurs. As a rule, in films of this genre somewhere along the course of events there are difficulties, but not in the “Gentleman Robbery”. One gets the impression that Rennie Harlin has invited the strongest guys to his football team, and opponents play with the weakest team and, as befits, the strong weak are simply crushing. So here, too, the Rogue Team turns out to be a bunch of real geniuses, but the bad guys hiding Mr. Schultz's gold are the dumbest creatures on the planet! Such a skew is striking and represents a weak disguise of the imperfection of the scenario, in which there are so many holes that it feels like a moth has bitten it.
Questions that arise in the course of viewing remain unanswered: how they found each of the “Rogue Team” (and why the people they robbed did not do this – probably because they were stupid last), how they went to prison, how they moved freely through it as quickly melted the bars, how quickly the gold froze, how they managed to carry a cargo weighing several hundred kilograms (taking into account how much one ingot weighs) without tearing the navels – in short, a pile of everything that introduces into the contest of bewilderment when watching, remains unnoticed by the director, apparently forever.
Rennie Harlin, known as the man who drowned the company Carolco Pictures with his “Island of thugs”, after “Mind Hunters” gave a couple of watching projects, and now he is among the directors who are trying to do something else, but they are not destined to return to the best.
Pierce Brosnan in this film plays himself - the same Pierce Brosnan, who could be seen in many films. He just doesn't change. But the presence of Tim Roth here is unnecessary, because put in his place any actor, even nouneim, nothing will change. Tim Roth is not represented here as a billionaire boss, but as a dorky billionaire who has amassed his wealth without knowing how, even though he has proved immensely stupid. And his role here is just to appear in the frame and to portray surprise or resentment. He simply didn’t have enough opportunities in this film.
The concept of the creators to show modern Robin Hood looks even more ridiculous than Tim Roth, who portrays an international friend of terrorists, because to imagine something like this is not very good. A team of dudes robs and punishes other dudes, does it very skillfully, because those dudes turn out to be very stupid dudes, and at the same time good dudes give money to the poor. This film is fit to be attributed to the number of science fiction projects, but not to the genre of an action movie with elements of a thriller and adventure!
And in the end, I didn’t see anything “gentleman” in this film. In "Ocean's Friends" - yes, there was a lot of gentlemen, and here - zero sparkling, zero idea, complete tastelessness and amateurism.
But look at you. I do not impose my opinion on anyone.
Toast to your happy release! You are Henrik Quinto, the first bear cub in Poland.
- Do I look like a cubs? I'm a musician.
- And you were imprisoned for bigamy, right? 1924, Lviv, Polish National Bank. 25th year - Lodz, Swiss Credit Bank. 27th Bydgoszcz, People's Bank. On the 28th, the Economic Bank. Of course, I have listed only your main concerts ' Mr. Musician! You were taken in the 28th and given six years only because they could not prove the rest of your exploits. . .
- You are confusing me with someone.
'Va Bank', 1981, dir. Y. Makhulsky
Alas, as the saying goes... The iconic faces of the actors are not a guarantee of the success of the picture. Pierce Brosnan, Tim Roth are not the last people in Hollywood. Definitely the caliber of the stars. Today, of course, they are somewhat dilapidated with the texture of the faces, but so what? The stage age is long. The roads of drama, action, adventure. Talent is a drink. Slender, graceful, subtile for their years. They didn't crept over with dough, turned into decks of gluttony. Like some. Lovely to watch. What do you want today? What surprise? I am very excited.
That's how I tuned in to this movie. Still - an adventure thriller, an action movie in the genre of adventures ' bear cub' - safes, vaults, 'bablos', gold. It's always interesting. It's always invigorating. What kind of penetration is going to be today? Blow up or cut ' canned ' will they become a knife? Autogen to help them? Or maybe a time-tested, irreplaceable sledgehammer will crush steel? The poster - a hot yellow with a gop company pulling off only exacerbated the anticipation. Well, rather than a new film adaptation of the ancient and forgotten ' Va Bank' (1981) - young suckers and terry grandfather click in the robin guda rush of the new nouveau riche.
But the action, in fact, was scant. That's an understatement. Cutting, mediocre tape with no novelty, no shine. The director only at the very beginning, only in the prologue, let everyone speak out, demonstrating to us, the audience, the range of the talent of these bandits. In turn, they declared themselves, took turns to tear up applause. We went into the shadows. We were with us, but there was no spark. They didn't burn out. Muffled? Smothered? But why? To give a place on the stage to the main maestro? Partly so. Yeah, I guess. But ' himself ' but Brosnan, could not, could not save this sinking ship. The one-and-a-half-hour film got a hole from a weak, wretched script. It was he who sank this 'schooner' A lot of chatter, a little drive. The rattling of the introductory part is so difficult to perceive that you nervously fidget in the chair - when this verbal diarrhea will end. Went out into space after the maxims - and the creators did not think how to captivate the audience. We're out. Dried. No intrigue or intrigue.
The plot is generally unpretentious, simple and not new. Thief Richard Pace (Pete Brosnan) is offered to join the community to turn a promising businessman hot heads. They haven't been in prison yet, and they haven't sniffed the parachute walls of the casemates. Noble metal bars at stake. Promising. The old man thought, thought, and accepted the offer. The more that it is necessary to do business not in the States, not in Europe, but in a far distant place. Even in Abu Dhabi - this is the United Arab Emirates, brings tomboy prank.
Comic, comedy begin to appear more clearly the closer the final. So what is it? A parody of beaten stamps in ridicule? An evil irony over the cacophony of the theme of the dream factory robbery? Such an unsightly statement of the painting in its own impotence from the authors-creators? Don't know, don't know. Alas, alas, 'The Gentleman robbery' is the collapse and failure of the summer of 2021.
' Va Bank' - Forty years ago to revise - and then the benefit will be more.
