"Real boys" in Belarusian! This masterpiece was created by one (in fact, just the only one) of the most prominent Belarusian filmmakers of the “new generation” in Russia: a simple Belarusian guy wearing glasses that saves the vision and image of an intellectual (at the same time) under the name (if I am not mistaken) Kureychik.
This “talent” had a hand in (in general, not bad against the general background of Russian modern comedies) the trilogy “Love-Carrot”. In Belarus, he is also “widely known in narrow circles” as a theater figure and here (in this case) the creator of “independent cinema”.
... That’s the problem, it turned out very “elite” creator. Clearly inflated self-esteem and the complete absence of “competitors” in the media space, combined with the complete absence of any other (Belarusian) cinema in Belarus, are the root cause of such a “cinema”.
About Realism
Perhaps this is not interesting to many, but apparently, this “most Belarusian” filmmaker has no idea about Shabans or about modern youth.
More specifically,
1) Youth (in the person of the main character) which the "author" showed in this film is an extremely narrow layer of half-majors living only in Minsk (by Belarusian standards) semi-bohemian clubs (bars, "spoks") and the sick imagination of the creators of this film.
(2) Shabans! The shabans in this film are shown eerily stereotypical and unreal even for the citizens of Minsk (those who have visited or lived in this neighborhood). Apparently, the author of the “film” did not think at all about real life in real Shabans, but only took the “name” to show a kind of “butovo in Belarusian”.
"Critique" of the "regime" and the Belarusian reality
Do not mislead the viewer and the efforts of the writer and director, who put in the mouth of the main “hero” speech on the topic of modern Belarusian life!
First, , the "actor" reads them as if he is not an actor, but a teacher of the Russian language, diligently not without enthusiasm reading another dictation in high school!
Secondly, he is not really "critical" or even provocative! Like the film itself, the “hero” talks about eerily stereotypical and sometimes unreal or twisted by the ears, things!
I never try to defend either the Belarusian reality or other realities of our current life, I only say that the authors of this “cinema” themselves are not that they are not aware of those “realities”, but (most likely) just try to parasitize on this (in fact, not simple and acute) topic with the aim of creating a new environment.
But for what purpose? Yes, commercial! Yes, the collections of the film is not comparable with the normal movie, which is shown in theaters, but what is the “charm”: a small “profit” is still Profit!) Guys, spending "2 wheels 20 kopecks" to songs about the fact that this is the first real Belarusian film, about the "real" Belarus for real youth, under the slurs of the Belarusian media (including, incidentally, the State) drove people to cinemas and clearly earned the authors of the “picture” for an annual supply of “burner” and (as a variant of “three-year back”!) And the fact that most “film viewers” did not hesitate to swear after watching (some left the cinema even before the credits) is no longer necessary details, which Kureychik in an interview will not tell!
"Cultural" value and "sightability"
The big problem of this “cinema” is the complete transparency of its “genre”!
On the one hand, the creators of the “picture” often positioned it as a sample of “independent” cinema, but in fact, it is just a low-budget video sketch, which did not stand next to the samples of the genre (" On the Needle, Lola Forever, and so on and so on), and in principle next to the word “cinema.”
If this is a comedy, which the authors also mentioned, then it is categorically stupid, stereotypical and absolutely not funny and not even ironic. The vulgarity present in the “picture” borders on rudeness, while in relation to the viewer.
A separate "respect" for the actors! I don't know where they were recruited, but it's, sorry... "cap!" So inept to read the text (about the game there is no question), it is still very hard to try.
Here it is necessary to make a reservation, all without exception "play" in vain, except for the magnificent Evelina Sakuro - a truly talented Belarusian actress.
But the “head of the transport shop” in the face of the underground and (in fact) simply not interesting at least to the “broad” public outside the same extremely narrow circle of the “Belarusian bohemian”, as if a rock musician – Mr. Kulinkovich – so there is just trouble!
A person who is persistently trying to build himself an underground rocker and a “boy of the people” (in those rare moments when the local media take him out of the “information closet”) instead of a “man-autoslayer” “played”, I am very sorry, a “scumbag” and a mentally unhealthy hum who (by the way) in real Shabans captured (with this behavior) much earlier than the “Rastaman” shown in the film!
Timekeeping! It's a horror - the film is categorically "distressing!" In some (very many) scenes in the middle of pauses and conversations clearly "about nothing" you can in the most literal sense of the word go to smoke, look at the kitchen, make sandwiches, drink tea (brewing it beforehand), come back and absolutely do not miss anything!
I even tried to write off this “reception” on the specifics of the “film” and (or) genre, the style of the director and screenwriter in the end, but in the end I came to the only correct conclusion – the guys cynically climbed into the cinema! Timekeeping, once again, clearly and pointlessly stretched in order that in fact, the “creators” tritely earned money on absolutely talentless “film”!
Total:
A sample of tastelessness, filmed for whom it is not clear and why, hiding its uselessness under the guise of independent and almost oppositional cinema, although to neither this half-glamorous libel on the inhabitants of the whole (!) Belarus, the prototype of which the Shabans act here, has not the slightest relation.
