Memories of parents A cartoon based on the comic book by Raymond Briggs tells the touching story of his own parents Ethel and Ernest, ordinary people living in London. The story of their love began in the last century, in the distant 1928. Their share fell considerable trials, ranging from the banal lack of money, the general Depression and then many years of deprivation, during the Second World War, the difficult postwar period. But they were together, boundlessly loved each other, rejoiced at the success of their son.
This cartoon is for adults, not for children, clearly from the synopsis. Everything looks not tense, giving a movie narrative. There is no childish enthusiasm in sight, only the life situations of one family with a historical background. For 94 minutes, the viewer manages to look at the first timid acquaintance, and the first quarrel, and the birth of a child, the beginning of the war, a difficult time for parents - parting with his son, meeting his daughter-in-law. It will be fun and sad at the same time. And all this in one breath, so touching, so reverent, so soulful that at the end of the tape, considering real pictures of the Briggs family, you feel joy, because in general, whether it is adversity or happy moments, the characters become relatives. And not just because the viewer lives with them.
The animated film will be remembered for its bright colors, will give you a piece of warmth. Still great that the writer, illustrator and animator Raymond Briggs decided to capture the memories of his parents in the comic, and Roger Maynwood brought everything to the screen. Want to experience the atmosphere of the 20th century, straight to England? Well, then Ethel and Ernest is for you! Look at that.
