The film is about the fact that everything has its price. Visually, the film looks mystical. Shadows, light, fog were used to create mysticism. A very good solution with a river running over the threshold and kerosene. But music seems to tell you where reality is and where fiction is.
In this timelessness, the attributes of modernity are well inscribed: cars, guitar, modern clothes.
Especially bright is the moment when the main character decides to pass the paw further: “What am I, the worst of all?” In this dream-madness should pay attention to the image of the only sane person – daughter-in-law. She accepts the difficulties of life honestly and with her head held high. She candidly says, “I’m tired!”, “I’m leaving,” “She needs to be burned.” That's how you go about life. The image of a girl who accepts everything steadfastly; parallels the images of people who are mad with envy, greed, expectations, dissatisfaction with life. They do not accept a son, a daughter-in-law, or the success of their neighbors. They are always unhappy because they always want something more. The son is honest, ironic and simple, and the father does not forgive him moral and spiritual superiority, as (apparently) he did not once forgive his brother.
A well-chosen place for the denouement: people by the fire. People at the campfire are waiting for mysticism, and here she comes to the fire in the form of evil. And evil is followed by good (daughter-in-law), tormented, but not astray.
The film was successful, as it leaves a sediment; deeply symbolic and concise in everything.
It is recommended to view people of any age.
