The horrors of war, without war itself. Lola Doyon, a little-known actress and director from France, who did not shoot very many films, and did not receive any awards, but as they say – “to shoot, everyone can.”
That’s right, I would say, because the movie, Fanny’s Journey, deserves your attention!
The story, which has gathered many since the World War, true or fictional, once again - embodied on the screen.
A group of Jewish children, now orphans, are trying to get out of Fascist Italy and into safe Switzerland, but as we know, nothing ever goes according to plan. So this time – children, at first, together with adult escorts, experience various dangerous situations, in which it is revealed that some children are stronger than adults, and some adults are weaker than children.
The plot is simple, but catchy; the camera work is good - we were sufficiently shown everything, from the beauty of the world around us, to the horror of war, which by the way they did very original - they used Gareth Edwards' technique, when, the camera is focused on a person, and around the main events occur.
It is worth noting the wonderful acting, I immediately apologize if I did not correctly adapt the names to Russian - Leonie Sasho (Fanny) and Julian Lepuro (Gorgette). Girls, despite their young age, played better than many, experienced, actors.
Well, the film is interesting to watch, from beginning to end, and after, it leaves a pleasant feeling, such a bright residue, that the world is not without good people, and that everything is not so bad in this world. Why, after all, sludge? Yes, because - despite all the kindness and ease in the film, we should not forget - there is a war around, people are dying.
I recommend watching the film with children and in a warm, family atmosphere!
